# [jgmac1106] [tantek] well if I am teaching in a remixable course template that sends and receives webmentions I can cheat by doing my day job.

# jeremycherfas Good morning IndieWeb
# jeremycherfas petermolnar++ for giving me the option to read his site in lighter mode; I really prefer that almost everywhere.

# [kevinmarks] [cleverdevil] does WAV have chapter support? I know mov and m4a (which is mp4 really) do
# jeremycherfas What is a screw-hammer? Some JKJ joke?
# Loqi It looks like we don't have a page for "screw-hammer" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "screw-hammer is ____", a sentence describing the term)

# [manton] [jdpinto1] As others have said, depends what you want to do, but happy to answer questions about Micro.blog if you have any. To your point about "overthinking" it, my 2 cents: try to avoid getting bogged down in anything that will get in the way of posting. Domain name + easy posting is key, then you can add more later, or even change your mind.

# jgmac1106 !tell eddie I stole your idea from myurl.is and recorded a microcast with my son: https://quickthoughts.jgregorymcverry.com/2018/11/17/writewhat-episode-2-blogging-with-ben

# [kevinmarks] Fig. 38 is a diagram of what is popularly known as a screw hammer. The handle, A, turns in the collar, B, and has a screw cut in a hole bored inside it, into which screw the movable jaw, C, is drawn by the turning of the handle.
# jeremycherfas Sounds something like a C-clamp
# [kevinmarks] I think it's an adjustable wrench

# [kim_landwehr] Good Morning Indieweb I have a quick question for those of you who use Java Script. I am in the process of learning it and was wondering if there would be any reason to use single quotes over double qoutes?
[kevinmarks] joined the channel
# [kevinmarks] The only reason I can think of is if you want double quotes in your string.
[cleverdevil] joined the channel
# [cleverdevil] [kevinmarks786] so, WAV does have marker support, and Marco Arment’s Forecast podcast tool will automatically carry those over to the MP3 files it generates, but it turns out that GarageBand doesn’t have support for creating markers. Just the more expensive Logic Pro tool.
[eddie], [schmarty], [sebsel] and [kevinmarks] joined the channel
# [kevinmarks] It certainly used to.
# [kevinmarks] Mind you, it used to have ichat integration for isolated recording of both ends of a chat for podcast purposes.
[cleverdevil] joined the channel
# [cleverdevil] Yeah I heard that it used to, including an entire Podcasting profile, but that all was removed in the last round of major updates.
# [cleverdevil] It still has the ability to create “arrangement markers,” but they don’t actually show up in the exported WAV file.
# [cleverdevil] I’m not spending 200 bucks to get that one feature either. Instead, I’ll invest that money into a better podcasting mic so I don’t sound so much worse than [eddie] 😉

# [cleverdevil] In fact, I just purchased a used Shure 87A on eBay for 140 bucks shipped.
# [cleverdevil] I now need a stand, cable, and guard for it.
# [cleverdevil] Oh the XLR interface too.
# [cleverdevil] Any recommendations @eddie?
# jeremycherfas I would say, if you're getting a stand, get an arm with a shockmount, rather than one that stands on the desk.
# [cleverdevil] That’s my plan.
# [cleverdevil] (Arm with shockmount).
# [cleverdevil] Thinking about this one: NeewerNW-35 Microphone Suspension Boom Scissor Arm Stand with Built-in XLR to XLR Cable, Metal Shock Mount, Table Mounting Clamp and Pop Filter Windscreen Mask Shield https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HTI2MRO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_a1f8BbMB42DBN
# [eddie] That seems pretty similar to what I got: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VIDJB76/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_YZf8BbY12J8MB
# [cleverdevil] I just can’t tell if it’ll fit the Shure 87A
# [cleverdevil] It’s cheap and Prime. I’ll just buy it and see.
# [cleverdevil] I can always return it :P
# jeremycherfas Mine is the arm in this bundle https://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Broadcast-Bundle-Microphone-Broadcasting/dp/B007NMZ64S/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1542479495&sr=8-4&keywords=rode+psa1+swivel+mount+studio+microphone+boom+arm but I can't seem to see it on its own. At least, not in Amazon.
# [cleverdevil] That should do it. I got a Shure 87A, scissor arm with shock mount and pop filter, and a Tascam US-2x2 XLR interface.
# [cleverdevil] Big upgrade from my Blue Snowball, which I really don’t like.
# jeremycherfas So you record directly into computer?
# jeremycherfas I go through an outboard mixer and AD converter
# [cleverdevil] Yeah. Into GarageBand.
[kim_landwehr] joined the channel
# [kim_landwehr] thanks [kevinmarks786] I was just wondering.
# jeremycherfas Cool, I'm sure. I often need to do mix minus when I record, so need the outboard mixer.
