wait, what were iPhone "max" sizes?
[matpacker] joined the channel
#
[matpacker]
iPhone Xs max, i.e. the big iPhone.
[eddie] joined the channel
#
[tantek]
I mean, what does that mean? what was the actual size?
#
Ruxton
ipHone max has 6.5inch display, XR has 6.1 nch
#
Ruxton
until october, insta just scaled up for them, then they added native layouts for them.. now it sounds like its gone again O_o
#
[matpacker]
haha too fast for me
#
[eddie]
I think the Instagram update has a regression bug. I don’t think it’s intentional
#
Ruxton
they regress things often
#
Ruxton
and then they turn up a few days later
#
[matpacker]
Yeh, mistakes happen.
#
Ruxton
ehhh.. if you regress a major change like layouts, without intending to do it, something is pretty broken in your build process.
#
[matpacker]
Blame the intern
#
Ruxton
but they're likely drinking the FB Kool Aid of fast iteraton deploys
#
[matpacker]
It’s all a race. I think it’s likely been stuffed up with the new feature release, live chat in Instagram TV or whatever it’s called
#
Ruxton
yeah that'll do it, big merge conflict from merging up months of work :P

[matpacker]
haha I shouldn’t laugh

twitter was never great...

I liked it in 2009

it was new, and it allowed you to very easily shout short things into the world, but it was never great, in my opinion. geocities, despite everything, was great.

#
[jgmac1106]
or anyone who wants to talk abotu how having your own website is first step to privacy
#
petermolnar
I might challenge that statement - how having your own website is first step to privacy -, given domain registration requires real names, credit cards, most even need physical address, etc. I'm aware that most of them could now be put behind safety rules, but it's not the kind of anonym privacy many apply to the word privacy.

#
[jgmac1106]
why is prvacy always defined as hiding your info? I can be in the phone book and be a private person
#
[jgmac1106]
the difference with having your own website as the first step in privacy is you control who gets to access to your data. You do not have this control when you use social media
#
[jgmac1106]
I can be open and private
#
petermolnar
I agree; my sentence was not disagreeing with you; it was a notion that privacy, in contemporary context, is usually bonded together with anonymity
#
sknebel
it's not "always defined as", but you need to be careful everyone understands what your definition is
#
[jgmac1106]
Need to do a piece on that, maybe a three circle Venn diagram privacy, anonymity, and open, neither the same or mutually exclusive
#
[jgmac1106]
yeah I am in the US, we define privacy as, "come on my land and I get to shoot you"
#
petermolnar
this is the same issues I have with people bashing encrypted email: it's private. Is it anonym? No. Still private.
#
[jgmac1106]
maybe encryption should be in same post...
#
[jgmac1106]
either way if anyone wants to speak for privacy to a mainly Indian audience please let me know

Danny on public, private and secret is still worth reading: https://www.oblomovka.com/wp/2003/10/13/the-register/

" this is what the end of privacy means. It means the end of the private register. Not everything that is private is meant to be secret, meant to be hidden. It’s just not intended to be public. That grey area is fading, and soon it will be gone."
#
[jgmac1106]
I love British writers with an affinity for the Register: Andrew accused me of selling out, of bum-licking the hippies, a disturbing visual that like many of Orlowski’s best
#

Orlowski has always been nasty. I like Danny's tone though

Easier but not different. I could technically scribe what someone said, photograph documents, cryptography was born with writing for writing is just semiotic affordanaces of assigning perception to meaning

I've been really enjoying the unique design styles of https://www.kickscondor.com/ and https://www.ohhelloana.blog
#
[eddie]
They have inspired me to think through making my blog less Material Design, business-y
#
[eddie]
I've started looking at some different Art styles like Pop Art and I'm thinking through what type of style I want to shift my website toward to make it feel more personal and fun
#
[eddie]
Has anyone else seen any non-standard website designs lately that they found interesting? Would love to add some more inspirational sites to my list as I'm marinading on it.
#

pfew, the first one feels very chaotic to me to read

tantek: Do you think it is useful to collect any of the unique websites I find on the wiki? or just in a personal blog post
#

I usually only have time very early in morning and at night... Bookmarking and reflecting for my self off hashtag as well
#

#
[eddie]
gRegorLove yeah that's a good session
#
[jgmac1106]
Or copy/paste but start at home
#
[eddie]
jgmac1106 I definitely think I'll blog about them, but I'll probably put them all in a single blog
#
[eddie]
so I didn't know if I should collect the individual ones on the wiki while still searching and such before my blog post later on
#
[jgmac1106]
What I mean.. And yours should be on the list. Love your design
#
[eddie]
lol Thanks, Too bad I'm trashing it!

I need to add the ability to add tags/categories to booksmarks in Indigenous and for some reason the Bookmark features in Quill doesn't work with my site (something on my site)
#
[eddie]
so bookmarks for this aren't SUPER useful on my site because I don't know why I bookmarked them. But I'd definitely like to be able to get tags working so I can utilize bookmarks on my site in the future

Can anyone confirm that Twitter's awful URL hijacking/spying—can't call it URL shortening, since in many cases it's now lengthening the URL—is breaking IndieWeb profile connecting a la https://indiewebify.me/ ?
#
mlncn
hmm it claims https://indiewebify.me/validate-rel-me/?url=http%3A%2F%2Ftantek.com works perfectly with the link being to/from https://twitter.com/intent/user?screen_name=t but that page on Twitter is also running things through their URL manipulator. Huh.

i guess the issue is Twitter is putting rel=nofollow on the usual profile pages, and the URL redirector thing isn't an issue
