#[jgmac1106]hey everyone I made a template for the no-facebook webmention badge if anyone wants one and you are on silo-quits send me a tell and I will deliver a badge through webmentions
#@iandeesIf I had more time in my life I'd start building a web community around sharing events/calendars. That seems to be the last thing that Facebook is useful for. (twitter.com/_/status/1075526321533607937)
#[asuh]Indieweb principles are basically a decentralized version of what heβs describing in this thread, but I can see a place for a site like upcoming.org being a catalyst to help people understand how more interconnected this all could be
seekr and [tantek] joined the channel
#[tantek]Indeed. We should help upcoming adopt IndieWeb building blocks to help it aggregate decentralized events for discovery

#[eddie]!tell jgmac1106 Yeah arush and I had scheduled an episode. Ended up not working out (my fault on the scheduling), but we're going to be scheduling a make-up interview in the new year
#Loqi[eddie]: [jgmac1106] left you a message 3 hours, 19 minutes ago: add webmentions to each episode url, I tired sending one and I couldn't. Also schedule an episode with [arush]
#[eddie]Yeah the myurlis website is minimum viable right now, but I definitely have it collecting webmentions
#[eddie]The goal is to show comments and listens, etc
#[jgmac1106]Sweet she was such a resource for me teaching
#Loqi[jgmac1106]: [eddie] left you a message 1 minute ago: Yeah arush and I had scheduled an episode. Ended up not working out (my fault on the scheduling), but we're going to be scheduling a make-up interview in the new year
#[jgmac1106]I am writing a post write now, "can I learn to display webmentions"
#Loqi[eddie]: [jgmac1106] left you a message 11 minutes ago: here it is, my son is really sick today so took awhile to push, working in fifteen minute nap sprints: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwECN4uVuHg&t=1s
#[jgmac1106]hey @kisik21! After [tantek] told us about collapse being native in CSS I went and learned how easy it was...Pretty neat,
#kisik21[jgmac1106]: I technically have content warnings in my site theme now but I don't have any posts using this feature
#kisik21also I have rich reply contexts! but alas they require me to store the data myself and they don't fetch stuff...
#[jgmac1106]...could webmentions.io it, but yeah need to build some storage if you don't want to, but don't want to get to -devy
#kisik21webmention.io is for comments, i.e. posts that are replying to my posts
#kisik21hm... maybe I should fetch reply contexts. IndieWeb, what's your opinion - should I archive posts I'm replying to or should I fetch them from origin every time (maybe with server-side caching?)?
#[tantek]kisik21 more of a # dev question, yet I think the answer is archive, so you have a snapshot of what you thought you replied to

#jacky!tell [eddie] how do I reschedule my interview with you?
#[eddie]jacky Hey, you can use the original link I sent you. I marked some time around the holidays as unavailable so it should show the earliest time available as like Jan 7
#[eddie]If you don't have the link anymore i can resend it

#jacky[eddie]: resending would be dope - if it's via email and more than three weeks old, it's gone lol

#[eddie]haha gotcha  I'll resend it via email rather than here, just because these channels are logged and it creates an actual event on my calendar π

#[alexbayleaf]hi folks, i joined a couple of weeks ago and have just been lurking (or really not reading that much at all, heh) but i've been interested in indieweb for as long as it's been around, and in 2019 i am thinking of doing a related sort of project and wanted to run it past you
[matpacker] joined the channel
#[alexbayleaf]basically i want to do some work around setting up a WordPress Multisite installation that uses some indieweb-lite principles. basically i'm aiming for your "generation 3" as per the wiki, but in an accessible, hybrid sort of way.
#[alexbayleaf]most importantly i want them to be doing POSSE in *some* form, even if they're using Jetpack Publicize
#[kevinmarks]Sounds good - ask in #WordPress about multisite
#[alexbayleaf]i'm familiar with multisite, i have no trouble with the technical side of this
#[alexbayleaf]i think i'm not very likely to be using a lot of your actual indieweb plugins as they're not ready for "generation 3", but i'm going to be pushing hard on the "own your own domain, use POSSE" stuff
#[alexbayleaf]i have two use cases i'm likely to set up. one is for nonprofits and community groups in my small regional city, where all of them have FB but barely know how to use it and have trouble reaching people. the other is for fans and NSFW content creators who've been banned by tumblr etc.
#[kevinmarks]If you're running the install, they should not nned to know about plugins, yes.
#[alexbayleaf]anything i can install with them basically not knowing about it, i will.
#[alexbayleaf]i want to encourage them to be thinking about data portability etc, too. for instance i'll install a good backup/export plugin by default for everyone, and set it to send them monthly backups at least.
#[alexbayleaf]and make it easy for them to operate a mailing list that sends their blog posts out to anyone who's interested
#[alexbayleaf](not sure of the best way to implement that, but will find a way)
#[kevinmarks]I think there are a few that subscribe to a feed and post them out. Maybe feedburner.com still does
#[jgmac1106][alexbayleaf] if that is the goal just use the built in WordPress reader with Jetpack.
#[jgmac1106]You can create similar reading experience... But you are pretty locked into WP blogs
#[jgmac1106]Or [alexbayleaf] wait until [jackjamieson] polishes up Yarns getting close.
#[jgmac1106]And @mblaney showed me unicyiclic, could just create a group in a social reader there and point a subdomain to social reader
#[jgmac1106][alexbayleaf] finishing up this non profit site htttps://lcgnh.jgregorymcverry.com
j12t joined the channel
#[alexbayleaf][jgmac1106] this is not about reading experience. there are lots of RSS reader options for that.
#[jgmac1106]Ahh but part of the plugins create is ability to make your reading and writing experience in the same place, plus your NSFW folks can own content from their site.
#[jgmac1106]What do you want to accomplish with a multiuser WP IndieWeb site? Just curious to as to help you find right person with answer
#[alexbayleaf]i just wanted to let you know i'm working on it
#[alexbayleaf]and it's not strictly indieweb... i'd say it's indieweb-lite
#[alexbayleaf]but like, i want to be teaching them about stuff like POSSE
#[alexbayleaf]any indieweb stuff that is suitable for mostly-non-technical people i will integrate as much as i can.
#[alexbayleaf]i'm hoping it might be at least a conceptual onramp
#[jgmac1106]Ahh sorry for misunderstanding. Though the Facebook POSSE got almost impossible
#[jgmac1106]Check out and recommend micro.blog for non technical crowd as well
#[alexbayleaf]fb posse is doable to pages - and i'm mostly aiming at a small business market
#[jgmac1106]Interesting never thought about a Bridgy just for pages... Some people were fooling around with scraping emails as well
#[alexbayleaf](which is what my actual business mostly serves - small bus and nonprofits)
hs0ucy_ joined the channel
#[jgmac1106]Yes thus nonprofit model I shared. I am literally moving that to client server (I am on board pro Bono) it is mutlisuer and has all IndieWeb stuff installed.
#[jgmac1106]If you can do anything an h-event plugin is tool all the IndieWeb nonprofit communities need
#[alexbayleaf]i'm working on a WP plugin to let them display events for any venue/organiser/category on their own site
#[alexbayleaf]that's using The Events Calendar Pro
#[alexbayleaf]it uses schema.org markup for each event
#[alexbayleaf]if someone made an h-event plugin to work with TEC i'd be into it π
#[alexbayleaf]anyway yeah ballarat buzz has more events on it than anyone has seen before, and we have a pretty active community posting their stuff there and subscribed to our what's on newsletter
#[alexbayleaf]i've customised jetpack publicize to crosspost events to the ballarat buzz FB page
#[alexbayleaf]though it needs some further work, because its handling of recurring events is shitty
#[alexbayleaf]if i set up my "ballarat community websites" multisite installation to have a plugin that's just "enter the URL of your organisation/venue from ballarat buzz here, get a calendar on your events page" i'll be pretty pleased with that
