chrisaldrichtantek, we were discussing essay writers outside of the IndieWeb sphere. They're people that students might hire to write college assignments instead of doing themselves.
chrisaldrichTypically this is considered cheating, but students are willing to pay hundreds for someone to do their term papers instead of writing them themselves.
chrisaldrichThe general context is that these essay writers have figured out how to target the comments sections of WithKnown sites (possibly because the company was education focused) as a means of flogging their wares.
[Rose]I am curious how people handle posting upcoming events they will be attending on their site. I am thinking this should be a sub folder (category), and that just showing the upcoming events on a page is probably for the best?

[jgmac1106]Some stylistic differences between blogging and essays. Whats difference between a blog and journalism article? And folks notice WordPress removed the word blog from their documentation? It's for publishing not blogging now
ZegnatWhat is the difference between a blog post and an op-ed? People who write the first are bloggers, people who write the second are “newspaper writers”? :P
LoqiIt looks like we don't have a page for "difference between a blog post and an op-ed" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "difference between a blog post and an op-ed is ____", a sentence describing the term)
[jgmac1106]@zegnat and the context collapse works the wother way for me, I have to beak my students of treating a blog post like a facebook or instagram update with no line breaks and one short paragraph....yet they also have to hand in a digital essay assignment...which is usually a post or a page. Its the same answer as the tootsie roll pop after three citations its now an essay
jeremycherfasZegnat Op-eds are a strange mixture. In some papers they are mostly written by a small roster of regular columnists. In others, they are more often by outside people with a point of view. Hard to generalise. I would say that some long-form blog posts might be as well structured as a good essay, but the vast majority are not.
[voss]I suspect this is down to an issue with Known, however, as I can't connect Omnibear for example. Also gives me an error about getting an access token.
[voss]But, as mentioned, I think Knowns auth endpoint is the issue here. I get the same error with Omnibear, and I also can't connect to alltogethernow.io with indieauth.
[voss][grantcodes] my Known site was not setup to be Single user site. That would explain why some auth things won't work, because it's not a single-person identity, but could be used by multiple people.
[jgmac1106]!tell tantek I already separate my writing as articles (html pages on my website) versus posts (on my social stream)...no algorithm just intuition

LoqiIt looks like we don't have a page for "b2evolution" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "b2evolution is ____", a sentence describing the term)
[tantek]I have found this to be a challenge even just when browsing archives, though at least with that action it is a bit more intentional / user-controlled
