Greetings all. Feeling rather overwhelmed by the range of options/technologies. I'm intending my site to be static if possible (exported from Emacs/Orgmode). Adding h- microformat tags isn't hard. Any thoughts for first steps (e.g. enabling fediverse notification of new posts)?
#
KartikPrabhu
first step would be to get a domain and start publishing content there
#
KartikPrabhu
everything else is step 1+
#
gino
Ok, sites down at the moment but I have a domain and am familiar with HTML/CSS, setting up Apache on a VPS. It's the hooking of activitypub into an (ideally) static site that puzzles me

hi all
#
gino
The site current is exported from Orgmode markup to HTML, similar to using Markdown/Jekyll ...
#
Desmond
So, I tried doing a web sign-in for the indieweb wiki.
#
Desmond
I got an odd error. The page said: Cannot log in now
#
Desmond
Logging in is not possible when using MediaWiki\Extensions\Auth_remoteuser\AuthRemoteuserSessionProvider sessions.
#
Desmond
However, it did appear to log-in
#
Desmond
my name is my domain name

Do people generally prefix their personal domains with www? Or do they just use their name?
#
jacky
Desmond: personally, I don't. I remember it being some kind of SEO thing but that died off
#
KartikPrabhu
what is www?
#
Loqi
www in the context of the IndieWeb is an unnecessary subdomain on personal domain name https://indieweb.org/www

If that makes sense?

@gino some static site generators like 11ty can pull in dynamic content at build time. Or you can also push content in to the Github API (and force a rebuild if you use Netlify as a host) from an external service. Mine external service is on Heroku.

Still no word from Marco Arment on my email re: using Overcast.fm to scrobble listen history to my website.
#
[cleverdevil]
And nothing on the Overcast Slack either.

(Other than a few other users registering their interest).

Oh, and I am still rate limited 😛

I am sure he gets a ton of feedback in his inbox, so definitely wise to be patient 😉

has anyone implemented vouch into their site?
wolftune and [schmarty] joined the channel
#
[schmarty]
jacky i am not aware of anyone having implemented sending vouches along w/ their webmentions.
#
[schmarty]
however, GWG's webmention plugin for WordPress will process vouches that are sent.
#
GWG
Not by default
#
jacky
interesting
#
jacky
yeah I'm toying with the idea of having it a opt-in thing
#
GWG
Pfefferle wanted it turned off by default

evening all; [kevinmarks] linked an article that got me thinking about my "landing" page. As a common practice, most of us serve it as a feed, but I've started questioning that decision. However, if I drop the feed, how would an indieweb following work on my site?
#
petermolnar
given there would be no central h-feed
#
jacky
that's a good question
