it’s a good article. Rachel echoes something I always bang on about…

>those tools output HTML and CSS in the end
#
[davidmead]
and if you don’t understand what’s being ouput, your framework/tool choice doesn’t help
#
[jgmac1106]
But I think it is more than that as well. It is about the art of self.. People learn HTML and CSS because they want to shape identity

@matteodic @danicotillas @hulyaertas @skotperez I think it's worth a close look. Also, thanks to @jgmac1106 for jumping in. Check his replies (which are somehow connected/made from his own site in a way I still have to understand ;) https://twitter.com/jgmac1106/status/1090618304262258688

Is the crowd here aware that comics & TV writer Warren Ellis (of whom I am an admirer) has started invoking IndieWeb in his weekly newsletter?
#
jmac
He's been describing his gradual move away from silos and his grudging embrace of self-run solutions over the last several months; the issue is the first where he mentioned IW by name, casually.
#
snarfed
cool! link?
#
jacky
oooh TIL
#
jmac
His newsletters are email-only alas, but you can subscribe via http://orbitaloperations.com.
#
jmac
Pull-quote from latest ish: "There's a federated IndieWeb version of IG called PixelFed, but it's going to run into all the problems that get in the way of Mastodon." (I don't know if PixelFed is actually an IW thing? It's not in the wiki. But he's started throwing the term around, anyway.)
#
jmac
Anyway... if there are any Ellis fans amongst the veterans here, it might be nice to drop him a line and offer some guidance. It sounds like he really wants to get into IW, and he has been describing his attempts to his audience for some time

#
jmac
Which is me admitting I didn't read it either; I've just been following his weekly mailings for a while
#
[jgmac1106]
@jmac I am saying why don't you do it, send him a note on Twitter from your website and invite him to chat for help
#
jmac
"well volunteered, jmac"
#
[davidmead]
warren is always playing around with different “web stuff”, even ay back with message boards before newsletters
#
jmac
You know what, I can indeed do this thing; just wanted to pop up the opportunity for anyone who wanted to do it more than me. :) (Or who may have already been acquainted with him, or wev.)
#
jmac
I'll pop him an @.
#
[davidmead]
i think he even had a Known instance once

[jgmac1106]: My website isn't really optimized for Tweet-length POSSE yet; I am still yelling directly at Birdsite. Hoping to change that this year.

Over a decade ago I used to be on Warren Ellis' representation team working on selling rights to his work into film. It's been ages, but I can try to reach out to him via phone shortly and make an appeal there as well.

chrisaldrich: bradenslen left you a message 1 week, 1 day ago: Indieweb as a service sounds great. An indieweb replacement for Disqus would be wonderful.

an indieweb replacement for disqus would be commentparade!
#
KartikPrabhu
that sounds like a "comment silo"
#
KartikPrabhu
instead of "indieweb replacement"
#
jacky
what is? commentparade or disqus?
#
KartikPrabhu
commentpara.de
#
KartikPrabhu
sure you can write comments, but they stay on commentpara.de no?
#
jacky
AFAICS yeah
#
jacky
I figured it was an idea/proposal since it's using indieweb-adjacent things vs some closed off versions
#
KartikPrabhu
sure. I'm not saying no one should use it if they find it useful
#
Loqi
[Anonymous] Every XML validator will have told you that you have to define a namespace prefix before using it. That’s not browser-specific, that’s how XML works.

i think the point of comparing comment parade to disqus is that it lets people without a website comment on your stuff. it's only tangential that the comment is stored on comment parade.
