That was earlier this week though. Walking to the office today I think we’re at a measly 0 Celsius

This 0 degrees is annoying. All the snow turned to wet mush that sticks to everything.

#
sknebel
since the proposed "organizer" property for events came up yesterday - would people expect that to replace author (which mf2 doesn't know for events) for events entirely?
#
sknebel
e.g. in your reader, would you expect "eddie and greg are announcing IWC Online", without there being e.g. eddie as the author of the feed the reader pulled it from?
mickael joined the channel
#
Zegnat
I think they mean two different things. Author just happens to be whoever posted the event to the feed. Which does not have to be the people in charge of an event at all
#
aaronpk
Upcoming is an example of this
#
aaronpk
most events there are created not by the organizer
[jgmac1106] joined the channel
#
sknebel
guess other question is: does any tooling, e.g. your reader chain, use the author of an event post in practice?
#
[jgmac1106]
who is going to lose sleep if either an author or organizer doesn't parse on an event post...not me
#
aaronpk
I need to work on better presentation of events in Monocle. I don't know what it does right now actually
#
sknebel
(i.e. if people publish and consume author, we should probably track it at least as a draft property :D)
#
sknebel
and yes, my initial question was mostly presentation
#
aaronpk
Time to start collecting examples I guess?
nunatak joined the channel
#
aaronpk
Pretty sure events on my site have myself as the author
#
[jgmac1106]
here is a Known event I demoed for someone, but has no field for organizer so only has me as author: http://knowndemo.jgregorymcverry.com/2019/virtual-connecting-session-one
#
sknebel
yeah, even tantek has author on h-events
#
[jgmac1106]
it is a post it has an author, and events have organizers that maybe a person or a p-organization
#
[jgmac1106]
this convo is split between here and microfromats

I did not want to put my very mf2-ish reply in this non-jargon chat :)
#
Zegnat
For semantics on properties on mf2 objects: #microformats, for discussion of parsing and application in readers: #indieweb-dev
#
Zegnat
(This is as much a message for people reading logs, as for people who want to jump in :) )
#
[jgmac1106]
yeah I knew to leave just didn't know where to go, often micformats reserved for discussion of parsers and stuff but marking up microformats in dev and that was a little bit of both

Hm, interesting, I just logged into GitHub and got a message that they've added the ability to set a current status message.
#
aaronpk
next they'll add a log of all your github status messages and they'll have re-invented twitter
#
[jgmac1106]
[cleverdevil] yeah it feels like your status would be something set in your h-card...be fun thing to figure out how to POSSE that
#
[cleverdevil]
I bet you'll be able to edit your status, though, unlike Twitter.
#
[cleverdevil]
Because they'll be....... versioned.

I would just get a merge conflict between my personalities
#
[cleverdevil]
Interesting UX.
#
[jgmac1106]
and I guess if I wanted to track and follow my status overtime they would each need to be an h-entry and thus live outside the h-card...or have some database of p-category=🌴
#
jacky
status === note? no?

jacky
of the h-card

twitter basically started as a way to keep a log of ppls AIM status updates
#

wait no way
#
[cleverdevil]
I've gotta say, it would be nice to keep my politics status updates in a branch.
#
jacky

My AIM status updates used to be how kids followed me to find out what homework was. I would just put the days assignments as Zenith1106's status

AIM...ah, those were the days

"One night in July of that year I had an idea to make a more "live" LiveJournal. Real-time, up-to-date, from the road. Akin to updating your AIM status from wherever you are, and sharing it."

did jack use dodgeball?
#
[eddie]
[cleverdevil] Interestingly GitHub's status looks a LOT like Slack's status feature as well
#
aaronpk
dodgeball was way after 2000 wasn't it?

#

is anyone tracking like feed subscription count?
#
jacky
(it'd be nigh impossible to since you'd never know when someone unsubscribes)
#
jacky
unless there was a communication of it happening
#
aaronpk
You mean trying to determine how many people are following my feed?
#
aaronpk
lots of challenges there for sure
#
jacky
that sounds like more work than I'd care to have built out
#
jacky
right
#
aaronpk
lots of prior art in podcasting tho
#
aaronpk
since podcast ads live off of listener count
#
jacky
ahh true
#
aaronpk
short answer is there isn't a way to get a real number, but you can estimate based on Things
#
jacky
lol as with most things
#
jacky
that's actually good enough for me
#
Zegnat
Things are best discussed in dev ;)
#
aaronpk
yes :-)

jacky, AFAIK no one is *displaying* any kind of indieweb follower/subscriber count like that, though it would be theoretically possible. and for that, I'll share in dev 🙂

The thing I am most excited about #IndieWeb stuff, is the ability to write once, post manywhere.
#
Zee
I do tweet-threads pretty regularly, and would love a way to distribute that into Mastodon in a way that feels natural.
#
Zee
And then to aggregate it and put it on my website (or queue it as a draft for editing + posting) would be _fucking dope_
