I'm taking a look at setting up a website for IndieWeb, but I don't have time to get a permanent domain name at the moment.
#
yoshi5551
If I end up switching domains at some point, is there any way to associate my new website with the old one?
nitot and electronicmaji joined the channel
#

yoshi5551: Pretty sure a permanent redirect is how to do it, but i can't find that documented and dealing with a change of domain seems definitely worth defining
#

There are some notes here but they could definitely use filling out https://indieweb.org/migration#Domain_Changes

I can't recommend anyone to sponsor indieweb. Good bye and all the best.

Delete FOSDEM events? It is literally at the top of /Events ? Am I missing something, sl007?

I haven't listened to the episode and can't at work right now, what's happening?
#
Zegnat
Unsure. I too am at work.

(Unsurprising, as we're both in Europe!)
#
Loqi
Ok, I'll tell them that when I see them next
#
petermolnar
!tell sl007 he? Who attended? What were the sessions? Where is the photo? Saying "biggest European indieweb event" is... interesting.

wordpress went react with gutenberg, now this; I really don't like the rising monoculture of it
#
petermolnar
this is returning to oldschool GUI programming btw, but now on the web, and it's certainly simpler for a coder, but that doesn't make it the correct way
#
[jgmac1106]
especially if you mission is educating users..not making it easier for your developers

Vue saved a team I led at my last job weeks of time (we measured it in the ramp up time of the junior devs, how much more we needed (inhouse + outhouse work), and a few other biz factors)

Interesting Automattic added a timeline feed to their social reader, interestingly Eddie who I never followed showed up in my feed, seems to be only titeless notes in my feed

Have you follow [chrisaldrich]? I wonder if he did something with one of my posts? Because I would be surprised if one of my posts appears in the Wordpress ecosystem without someone on Wordpress doing something
chrisaldrich joined the channel
#
chrisaldrich
That sounds very likely.... whose avatar appears on the post?
#
chrisaldrich
If you follow others who do asides and don't add titles to them, they show up properly in WordPress' reader.
#
[jgmac1106]
Maybe I followed you in some demo or something, but interesting more to me that WordPress is playing with status update timelines
#
chrisaldrich
You definitely can subscribe to external feeds on WordPress.com though...
#
[jgmac1106]
i must have followed eddie at some point. It is just him, but a good overall design
#
[jgmac1106]
They now break the reader into Articles from people I follow, status/notes from people I follow, and recommended reads across the entire network
#
[eddie]
ohhhh interesting. Yeah, that looks like my feed
#
[eddie]
That's nice that they are working to improve and add functionality to their reader
#
[jgmac1106]
yeah eddie must have followed you in a tutorial or my own hacking about...WP.com is a VERY good social RSS reader I just don't use it
#
chrisaldrich
I'm looking at a few sample feeds and WP.com's reader is actually quite nice. Sadly their UI for sorting, managing, and maintaining feeds is lacking in comparison with inoreader, feedly, etc.
#
chrisaldrich
Here's one of the better UI examples I just saw on WordPress.com's feed reader of a note that includes a photo: https://boffosocko.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/wpcom-reader-ui-for-read-post.png
#
chrisaldrich
Who knew that a read post could be so dense and beautiful at the same time?
#
jacky
ooh that's an interesting display of it
#
[eddie]
Oh nice! I like it!

#

eddie weren't you working on a /monthly_recap sort of project? Did you document it or have some links to examples?
#
[eddie]
Oh Yeah I don't think I put it on the wiki yet
#
[eddie]
I should
#
[eddie]
That's an example for the current month
#
[eddie]
I'll look through and see if I can find a best month to display and add it to /monthly_recap
#
chrisaldrich
A few things have recently inspired me to think about to do lists, bullet journals, etc. and potentially building those into my own website by extending my list of "itches" https://boffosocko.com/kind/itch/. The key is likely having some useful archive views like monthly recaps...
#
[eddie]
Interesting. I've been doing a bullet journal approach for to dos lately after I read a book by the bullet journal guy
#
[eddie]
I definitely think something like that would be helpful with an archive view
#
[eddie]
I'm interested to hear your thoughts as you think that through

#

yeah need a pomodoro/to-do micropub client if folks looking for a project
#
mcverryj1
but it isn’t that bad to do manually, I took last two weeks office because I am disorganized and forget but wow does productivity suffer when the clock aint in my browser

like I will be on irc talking about Pomodoro rather than teaching my classes

[chrisaldrich] I do like how your itches are individual posts on your site. I have an IndieWeb page on my site that is essentially the same as my User profile on indieweb.org, but you can add more detail to itches when they are a full post.
#
chrisaldrich
I don't do it often, but you can either update those pages as you move along and/or add to them by adding comments as well.
