#jgmac1106drewmcweeney I dropped it into the #chat room
#[tantek]speaking of meta and seeing [chrisaldrich] - any chance of a rainy SoCal IWC soonish? this year? 🙂
#chrisaldrichWe're getting somewhere tantek. I'm trying to tag down one or two other local organizers to help out. I've got a few potential locations and then we just need to decide on a date.
#j605hi, I don't if this was addressed anywhere but when I looked at indiewebify or other blogs that explain the steps they use webmentions.io or other external services. I want to take out disqus and maybe even go commentless (my blog is not the read or commented anyway), but I don't understand how using webmentions.io would be better than another external service. Can some point me in the right direction :)
#[kevinmarks]There are a few different webmention handling services - what is your goal with them?
#j605something like a comments alternative as well as mentions
#j605my doubt was, isn't depending on external handling services a similar issue to avoid? sorry I was just confused but just thought I would ask now after thinking about it
#[kevinmarks]Several people have a "submit a comment url" form. To post a comment on their site is a bit trickier. You could default to commentpara.de to enable anonymous ones
#[kevinmarks]The external services are handy for static sites, but if you want to manage the mentions yourself you can, or host your own instance of webmention.io, webmention.herokuapp.com or mention.tech
#gRegorLoveSome people have also saved local copies of webmentions from webmention.io. It has a pretty good API
#j605there was a post by someone who implemented it for hugo and I was following their recommendations. I will try to complete it at some point
#j605tbh when I first found out about it, I was thrilled to know a lot of people had similar thoughts as I but much earlier :)
#j605gRegorLove: ok. Sometimes it is just a balance of how much I can spend and who I trust :| So running my own instance might not be feasible so I appreciate people running it for others
