As I'm thinking about /Facebook_Fan_Subscriptions, I could have sworn that at a camp a year or so ago as Patreon was making changes some of us documented "supporting pages" to show the other half of the /payment process the way Patreon shows their support pages.
#
chrisaldrich
Does anyone remember where that may have been, I'm not seeing it at /payment /pledge /support
#
chrisaldrich
What is supporting?
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "supporting" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "supporting is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#
chrisaldrich
I'll stub something here unless someone can remember...
#
jacky
hmm the closest thing I can (personally) think of it https://drewdevault.com/donate/
#
chrisaldrich
I remember several people working at the how to accept payments part for their sites through various services
#
chrisaldrich
I went the opposite end of the route and created a supporting page https://boffosocko.com/about/supporting/

/2017/Austin had some payment stuff from aaronpk and tantek iirc but it was ad hoc rather than subscription based
#
chrisaldrich
Thanks jacky, that's a great example
#
chrisaldrich
What is Liberapay?
#
Loqi
Liberapay is a service do make recurring donations to people whose work you appreciate https://indieweb.org/Liberapay
#
snarfed
chrisaldrich: yes! benwerd did recently too: https://werd.io/2019/what-do-i-pay-to-subscribe-to
#
chrisaldrich
thanks snarfed... I'm apparently behind on my feeds again...
#
snarfed
i have the same but not public yet
#
chrisaldrich
I should expand mine to include paid subscriptions to newspapers/magazines many of which I view paid subscriptions for to be essentially donations

One time rather than ad hoc, and it's been a very useful & usable feature that folks have used on my site!
#

See /pay for details
#
chrisaldrich
There is a somewhat related page at /donation I've noticed, but I think it's sufficiently different ...
#
[tantek]
I also created a minimal /request page on my site for the opposite, use-case when someone else pays for a group dinner and asks folks to venmo them

in talking about this w/ @cap, i realized what i’m looking for. i want the iphone of self hosted blogging software: simple, intuitive, beautiful, & just works. i do not want the android of blogging software: can be great if you fiddle the right bits & find the right theme, etc.
(twitter.com/_/status/1101361880180830208)
#
@EricaJoy
do i have to put my writing back on my website now? is there a self hosted alternative to wordpress that's pretty (well designed), feature rich, and easy to use?

[kevinmarks]
do you want to add examples to /audience
#
[Vincent]
what is a audience?
#
Loqi
audience is an experimental property of a post that indicates the intended recipients (readers) of the post https://indieweb.org/audience
#
Loqi
ok, I added "https://www.chriskrycho.com/2018/assumed-audiences.html" to the "See Also" section of /code-of-conduct-examples https://indieweb.org/wiki/index.php?diff=57557&oldid=55842

I want both. For my main site I want the ridiculously feature rich CMS with all the knobs so I can do things like customize my avatar per post, but then for my cat's website and project websites I want the really simple and straightforward system

which is kinda why I went A for my more static pages at https://jgregorymcverry.com and B for the social stream using Known (and bc I don't know how to add all the knobs to A)...but its a system I believe would work for most
#
[jgmac1106]
The UI needs love, but the role of Known having A out of the box with all IndieWeb building blocks on by default...but B being a bunch of one click plugins you could add (without going to GitHub) is intriguing design to me (not for Known but for CMS in general)

So, my first article written entirely on Indigenous for Android seemed to work out.
#
swentel
GWG, do you want an editor ? :)
#
swentel
(please say no)
#
GWG
swentel: The only think I realized while writing it is when I referenced things I couldn't link to them. Like linking Bridgy to https://brid.gy
#
GWG
I did that after publishing
#
swentel
ah hmm yes, that might be interesting
#
GWG
There's no other way right now. If you supported ending post-status to the server, I could transfer the post to my editor and edit it there, I suppose
#
swentel
I've experimented with some editors already though, but it's very buggy usually.
#
swentel
sending post-status ? You mean published or not?
#
swentel
I do that no ?
#
GWG
swentel: There is a published option, but when you have a draft in Indigenous, I can't figure out how to post it as a draft on my site.
#
GWG
It may be me misunderstanding the UI
#
swentel
ah, so draft is for storing in the app. There's also a published switch, that handles 'post-status'
#
swentel
which either is 'published' or 'draft'
#
swentel
too many options :)
#
snarfed
the wordpress mobile apps have good UX precedent for this. local draft vs draft vs published iirc
#
GWG
snarfed: Do you have a picture of that by any chance to brainstorm on?
#
GWG
I suppose I could install it to find one
#
swentel
oooh, right, that sounds better
#
snarfed
not handy, no, but easy to search, i'm sure screenshots exist
#
GWG
The problem is what you identified, swentel. The more options we offer, the more cluttered things get.
#
snarfed
if you collapse the UX into a single post status like that, it's no *more* options than before
#
snarfed
just one more *value* for an existing per-post option
#
swentel
that would help indeed
#
swentel
I need a UX/UI person to look at the app at some point
#
snarfed
in general the tension btw functionality and minimizing options is ok. you don't necessarily always choose one side or the other
#
snarfed
just be deliberate and thoughtful

Still, would be nice to get more feedback, not necessarily from a UX/UI person, but from more users in general.

snarfed: You'll be happy to know it works perfectly with the Micropub plugin
#
snarfed
great!
#
GWG
And when it doesn't, I fix it
[grantcodes] joined the channel
#
[grantcodes]
Another suggestion for drafts, if you can query a micropub endpoint to see if it supports: 1. draft post-status 2. updates 3. micropub queries. If all that is supported a client can store and manage drafts on the server, and if not fall back to local drafts
#
[grantcodes]
But not sure all that has been proposed yet
#
GWG
[grantcodes]: We have a proposal for that
#
Loqi
[dshanske] #8 Query for Supported Properties
#
Loqi
[dshanske] #7 Query for Supported Queries
#
GWG
Seemed the easiest way to tell the client what you actually knew about, after query for vocabulary

Holy webmentions batman! It looks like I've gotten some comments coming back to my WordPress website from Mastodon by comment_agent http.rb/3.3.0 (Mastodon/2.7.1; +https://mastodon.social/)
#
chrisaldrich
Has anyone seen this!!!
#
GWG
Not I. But I'm not Mastodon savvy
#
chrisaldrich
In looking, it appears that I've gotten 5 of them. And they all seem associated with my mastodon.social account instead of my mastodon instance courtesy of Pfefferle

hmm, I see a lot of pings from the fediverse
#
snarfed
chrisaldrich: are you running the activitypub plugin?
#
swentel
but that's usually to gather info about my instance
#
chrisaldrich
I do have pfefferle's activitypub plugin, but I didn't think he'd wired up the inbox portion yet.
#
snarfed
i doubt they're webmentions, since gargron explicitly decided not to implementing those
#
GWG
If I decide to jump on the ActivityPub bandwagon, am I better with Bridgy Fed or ActivityPub for WordPress?
#
GWG
Hmm..
#
GWG
Pingbacks?
#
GWG
Not sure what they might be.
#
chrisaldrich
And again, it seems associated with my chrisaldrich@mastodon.social account rather than @chrisaldrich@boffosocko.com.
#
GWG
Would have to look up the code to check
#
Loqi
[swentel] #38 Incoming requests from the fediverse once you're on it
#
chrisaldrich
They're definitely not Webmentions.
#
chrisaldrich
The meta_key "protocol" shows up as "activitypub" in wp_commentmeta
#
chrisaldrich
so also not trackbacks or pingbacks...
#
GWG
chrisaldrich: That sounds like the activitypub plugin.
#
GWG
Even though it might be coming from another instance
#
GWG
Ask pfefferle maybe?
#
chrisaldrich
I'm guessing it's got to be pfefferle as it's from this post https://mastodon.social/@chrisaldrich/101610660850777483 where I @mention my WP wordpress website from my mastodon.social account...
#
Loqi
[Chris Aldrich] Have I mentioned that I can also be followed via Mastodon directly through my personal website @chrisaldrich that acts roughly like a freestanding instance? I'm still working out some bugs, but it's not as horrible as I would have thought.

#
chrisaldrich
Well, they're kindly show up in my system as native comments, though associated with post "0" so they're not displayed anywhere....
#
chrisaldrich
I'll have to do some manual tweaking on them to get them to show up somewhere properly or to force them to go to my /mentions page
#
swentel
oh, it's really a comment, interesting
#
chrisaldrich
Yes, an honest-to-goodness comment!

notices that pfefferle has surreptitiously moved "receive comments/reactions" into the implemented column at https://wordpress.org/plugins/activitypub/
