Does anyone know of a method (or has already implemented a way) to take /Reddit subscriptions and pipe them into a traditional feed reader?
#
jacky
looks like just a `.rss` to each sub
[eddie] joined the channel
#
__number5__
you'll find your private feeds in https://www.reddit.com/prefs/feeds/ support both RSS and JSON format

Thanks everyone, I knew there was a much simpler solution... Sad each page doesn't advertise it's own discoverable feed.

In fact, I think I documented it before I actually began playing with it... I was just finishing up the set up stuff in my reader just now.

may I ask what reader are you using? Chris
[chrisaldrich] joined the channel
#
[chrisaldrich]
I've mostly been using Inoreader for the past 9 months or so.
#
[chrisaldrich]
I like that it supports OPML subscriptions, so I can follow people on my site which generates OPML files and automatically updates my reading lists.
KartikPrabhu and [eddie] joined the channel
#
[eddie]
Ohhhh you follow the OPML feed from your website :exploding_head:
#
[eddie]
That’s a life hack right there! Haha
#
[chrisaldrich]
I'm hoping that when I eventually switch over to a microsub reader, I can keep that (or a similar workflow)
#
[eddie]
Yeah, I definitely think we should have an answer to that workflow (either OPML or some other integration with follow posts)
#
[chrisaldrich]
that's the question... stick with the older (clunkier?) spec or go with a newer one using follow posts and microformats.
#
[chrisaldrich]
Maintaining both is kind of a pain in the neck and a DRY violation to be sure.
#
[chrisaldrich]
What is OPML?
#
Loqi
OPML stands for Outline Processor Markup Language, an XML-based format and defacto standard used for feed lists interchange https://indieweb.org/OPML

#
[eddie]
The other thing I’ve thought about is “should we link the website with the reader” (like with your feed) or should a Social Reader just do two things at one: Subscribe to someone in your Reader AND post on your site
#
[eddie]
Then your website doesn’t ever have to worry about sending data to your reader.
#
[eddie]
There’s pros and cons to both 🤔
jihaisse, iasai, cweiske and KartikPrabhu joined the channel
#
Zegnat
There is no reason a Microsub server shouldn’t be able to subscribe to an OPML file, right?

The only question is, is that the optimal/desired method?

EU mornings, US evenings at least somewhat overlap, yeah

there are a few hours each morning which overlap in the evenings in the EU/US.

vincent we had other people in NZ and AUS looking for other people. If you put up a session idea during your time...even if it is just a meet-up might be worthit to see if people show up

[jgmac1106]
for me somehow the night owls got in charge I am better 10-11 UTC than I am at night est
#
GWG
[jgmac1106]: Wasn't me. I didn't propose any sessions. I saw some good topics though I'd like to sit in on
#

#
[Vincent]
good idea!
#
Zegnat
is still trying to come up with a session idea
#
GWG
How to h-card with me, an exploration with the owner of the largest known h-card?
#
GWG
Zegnat, we could discuss profiles in Indieauth
#
Zegnat
I doubt mine is the largest, it might be the most varied
#
Zegnat
I am always up for profile talk though!
#
jgmac1106
!tell jacky doubt you can make it to London, but Elixir and events: https://www.meetup.com/Elixir-London/events/259559270/
#

#
jgmac1106
i bet people would come to an h-card/profile page session
#
GWG
Happy to chat anytime
#
Zegnat
jgmac1106, I would be happy to talk at one, but I do not actually have something to get off my chest, so I would be a bad initiator for such a session

I finally managed to send webmention with my Jekyll blog. Now I have a problem with Brid.gy. Everytime I send a webmention it lost access to my twitter account - and the tweet is not sent.
#
AkyRhO
Any idea?
#
swentel
hmm that's more of a bridgy thing, snarfed probably knows
#
swentel
not something on your end bsically
#
AkyRhO
funny thing is that yesterday I managed to send a webmention to brid.gy via telegraph
#
swentel
hmm, shouldn't really be a difference, it's a very simple request
#
swentel
I know I've had it a couple of times too in the beginning, but not sure why, maybe because I was on the UI too much of bridgy
#
swentel
so had to toggle 'publish' a couple of times there

#
[Rose]
Woot!
#
[Rose]
Now, how can I make it to multiple sessions at once if they all happen at once?
#
[Rose]
Realistically I can't be around tomorrow, I might make it, but it's unlikely.
#
[Rose]
This being internet based however, I can sit in 3 chats at once
#
[eddie]
I think we've been *trying* to disperse the sessions a bit so they don't all happen at once
#
[eddie]
awww, too bad that you can't make it tomorrow! 😞
#
[Rose]
It;s my boyfriend's sister's birthday celebration
#
[Rose]
It already got pushed back 2 weeks, one of which was my fault, I'm trying to avoid getting in trouble
#
[eddie]
oh cool! That's understandable 🙂
#
[Rose]
But, I'll take my laptop, and if there's a lull, or she's playing on her PS4 (Christmas present, I think there are games coming for her birthday), then I can join 🙂

tbh i'm not sure "follow posts" is how I actually want this to work long term, which is why i haven't implemented them at all
iasai joined the channel
#
[eddie]
Makes sense. I find them useful, but primarily from a display angle and I don’t feel strongly that it’s required for the backend
#
aaronpk
yeah plus there are plenty of things i want to follow that i dont want to tell anyone about
#
[eddie]
Which is why I like the idea of the social reader just handling both separate aspects, follow post for display, subscription for reader
#
[eddie]
Absolutely, there should always be a way to follow/subscribe to something privately
#
aaronpk
I do sometimes *want* to tell someone I started following them, or want to make a list of people I follow, so I think that's fine as a separate thing aside from the underlying mechanics of following content
iasai joined the channel
#
Zegnat
I think follow posts are interesting, but I am unlikely to start posting them as well
#
Loqi
Zegnat: [eddie] left you a message 1 hour, 4 minutes ago: I added an official session proposal for Profiles Pages because that's something I'm interested in building out on my website
#
Zegnat
Feel like it is more a thing where IF your reader happens to have Micropub access and IF you can use your reader to start following new things THEN it is up to the reader to give the option to post about this
#
Zegnat
So up to the readers to start doing that if they see a need?
#
aaronpk
import/export of subscriptions is definitely a huge thing though. I really need to add that to aperture ASAP
#
Zegnat
Oh agreed, did you mean follow posts specifically as a sort of import/export thing? Sorry in that case, didn’t want to hijack the conversation!
#
aaronpk
that was the thread i was picking up on from what chrisaldrich was saying
