[chrisaldrich] I like that it supports OPML subscriptions, so I can follow people on my site which generates OPML files and automatically updates my reading lists.

[chrisaldrich] that's the question... stick with the older (clunkier?) spec or go with a newer one using follow posts and microformats.

[chrisaldrich] Maintaining both is kind of a pain in the neck and a DRY violation to be sure.

[eddie] The other thing I’ve thought about is “should we link the website with the reader” (like with your feed) or should a Social Reader just do two things at one: Subscribe to someone in your Reader AND post on your site

aaronpk yeah plus there are plenty of things i want to follow that i dont want to tell anyone about

[eddie] Which is why I like the idea of the social reader just handling both separate aspects, follow post for display, subscription for reader

[eddie] Absolutely, there should always be a way to follow/subscribe to something privately

aaronpk I do sometimes *want* to tell someone I started following them, or want to make a list of people I follow, so I think that's fine as a separate thing aside from the underlying mechanics of following content
