# 00:00 GWG Out of curiosity, what brings you to us?
# 00:02 TheFerridge I'm (re)building a website to keep stuff I make (animations, blogposts and the like). I had heard of webmentions a while ago and I figured it'd be an immensely cool feature to have
# 00:03 GWG TheFerridge: There's a second plugin that enhances the appearance of webmentions called Semantic Linkbacks if it helps.
# 00:03 [jgmac1106] you don't know the story of the ferret's love for the refrigerator?
# 00:04 TheFerridge lol yeah I'm easy to find
lmorchard joined the channel
# 00:05 TheFerridge the nickname actually came out of a funny mispronounciation and then it became a whole thing
# 00:06 GWG And [jgmac1106] makes WordPress Indieweb tutorials.
# 00:06 GWG So, he's a great resource for newcomers.
# 00:06 TheFerridge Yeah I wanted to get around to doing that, but I've just arrived here today
# 00:08 GWG We all stand on the shoulders of giants.
# 00:08 TheFerridge Tomorrow I'll get back to trying to make this software work, but before I leave you peeps for the night, just a quick question
# 00:09 TheFerridge How far would you say webmentions are from an implementation which is noob-friendly? Because at least in my present experience, it's a pain even within the relative ease of wordpress
# 00:09 [jgmac1106] That is one thing to note TheFerridge, webmentions will always work best when your theme has native microformats2 support
# 00:10 GWG TheFerridge: I think it is easy. All you do is install and activate.
# 00:10 GWG Sending them will work better. Receiving them depends on the supporting site.
# 00:10 TheFerridge so you're saying it's just a matter of the adoption of microformats2?
# 00:11 [jgmac1106] ......if you want to use your own theme and have them display nicely....that works
# 00:11 [jgmac1106] Yes but "just a matter of the adoption of microformats2" is really hard with WordPress best bet is to use an approved theme
# 00:11 GWG That's how the webmention receiver figures out what your website looks like.
# 00:12 TheFerridge I'm off now but I'll be back to haunt this chat
# 00:13 [jgmac1106] see what happened is many themes added microformats when Google was pushing them, when Google moved on to their next flavor of the day nobody removed the older versions....and having both versions messes up everythig
# 00:13 [jgmac1106] If interested running a Getting Started with WordPress session at IndioeWebCamp Online this weekend
# 00:16 GWG [jgmac1106]: I had planned on being around.
# 00:17 GWG Although the time difference means I won't be there during the day on Friday.
# 00:19 [jgmac1106] We can do a Getting Started with WordPress on Saturday, if nobody shows up we will do a walkthrough of installing and setting up your theme
# 00:22 GWG [jgmac1106]: I don't know if I've ever sat in on your explanations.
# 00:22 GWG [jgmac1106]: I'm still confused about the schedule though
chrisaldrich and [tantek] joined the channel
# 00:41 [jgmac1106] gwg I was confused as well....I thought it was a bit more asynchronous...makes it a bit later for us East Coasters but now I get it....all session in the 2019-03-09 21:00 UTC (16:00 EST, 13:00 PST)

# 00:42 [jgmac1106] this two day conference, which is really spans three days of time zones is hard

# 09:09 Zegnat jeremycherfas, possibly. I am not yet sure what my weekend is going to be like
# 09:09 Zegnat But I would like it as an excuse to spent the whole weekend working on IndieWeb projects
# 09:12 jeremycherfas That's not going to work for me. In fact, I doubt that I will be able to attend any sessions. We shall see.
# 09:13 Zegnat I haven’t actually checked the schedule at all yet. I am thinking I am going to stick to EU time and just see what I may be able to join in on

# 14:43 [xavierroy] [Vincent] I also have the audience property set for my posts but I'm not exposing them right now. Maybe I should.
# 14:44 [Vincent] [xavierroy] my thinking is, that the more people use it. The better traction it gets, and that might lead to interesting things.
# 14:45 swentel [Vincent], the property in a micropub request would be 'audience' then ?
# 14:46 [xavierroy] Yes. And I should document my horrid hack of an existing WP plugin to support the audience property
eli_oat and eli_oat1 joined the channel
# 14:56 [Vincent] @swentel yes that’s what I’m using

# 15:03 [Vincent] sure thing 🙂
# 15:05 Zegnat Anyone (on EU time) have a good idea for a session during IWC Online? :D
# 15:11 Zegnat Would be interesting to do a refresher on AutoAuth definitely.
# 15:15 sknebel saturday anything between lets say 11-18 UTC should work for me
# 15:22 jgmac1106 I make audience way too hard…I just usually spin up a different website
# 15:26 jgmac1106 only takes two so you two can agree on a time and choose a final timeslot
[grantcodes] joined the channel
# 15:27 [grantcodes] I would love to hear about how autoauth could work with webauthn if that is a thing that is even possible
# 15:28 jgmac1106 great discussion for #dev channel or grantcodes can indie RSVP to online with zegnat and sknebel and hack on it this weekend
# 15:33 [grantcodes] Dunno if I'll be around this weekend, but hopefully I can pop in for a bit
rayna joined the channel
# 15:36 rayna At indie webcamp in Austin, @gRegor showed me this an awesome tool called tota11y (http://khan.github.io/tota11y/ ) that checks websites for accessibility. I shared it with colleagues, and today one of them pinged in a GitHub PR with a style modification to improve the contrast of code blocks in our online material :)
iasai and wolftune joined the channel
# 15:44 jgmac1106 rayna that is awesome…I can’t wait to apply to all my online class stuff, especially color contrast since I am color blind I have no idea what colors I am picking sometimes. I just google palletes …though this elads to me designing mainly in earth tones and grey’s
# 15:44 Zegnat [grantcodes] I don’t think the two are related. I do want to get into webauthn as a login method for indieauth. But we’ll see what happens :D

# 16:11 rayna I have a question regarding Etherpad. Does it crash often? Have you/are you looking into alternatives given that it is no longer supported?
# 16:12 rayna I ask because my community's etherpad runs into issues frequently (we typically have 50 users per pad and used many pads everyday a day)
[tantek] and [kevinmarks] joined the channel
# 16:19 [tantek] never had issues but also never had 50 people on a pad that I remember

# 16:21 TheFerridge Evening, all!
# 16:21 TheFerridge I'm gonna go and check everything I did against that 'Getting started with wordpress' article, just to make sure I didn't mess anything up
# 16:25 TheFerridge but it's just possible that the theme I'm using is incompatible enough with webmention backfeed that it's not worth the hassle of fixing, at least for now
# 16:29 [jgmac1106] more probable, if you just post your website real quick we can check....some themes work better than most. I for example had on again and off again support with Hueman...there is a microformats plugin but we do not usually recommend it anymore and I am not sure if gwg still mantains it...
# 16:31 TheFerridge I'm using OceanWP, possibly the most common open source theme of all
# 16:32 TheFerridge is there a better way to do backfeed than through Bridgy?
# 16:32 TheFerridge not to bash on it, it sounds great, but it doesn't seem to work well for me
# 16:32 TheFerridge not with Twitter, anyway
# 16:33 TheFerridge my website is www.chapsterhood.com , by the way

# 18:14 jacky !tell [xavierroy],[Vincent] *-audience is a great idea! I can see myself using the plain-text form more often than not since it'll be easier to type out
# 18:14 Loqi Ok, I'll tell them that when I see them next

# 19:20 sknebel !tell Zegnat, grantcodes added an AutoAuth session to the IWC online proposals
# 19:20 Loqi Ok, I'll tell them that when I see them next
# 19:20 sknebel (aaronpk, if you're available for IWC online of course interested in your input too for it)
# 19:22 aaronpk was there something wrong with the timee.io links?
[eddie] joined the channel
# 19:24 [eddie] Yes, I need to fix it. I think it's the end time of the session period
# 19:24 Loqi [eddie]: [jgmac1106] left you a message 20 hours, 15 minutes ago: nobody came to New Haven so will hop on vHWC Americas
# 19:25 [eddie] In fact, I have a few minutes now so it's a good time to look through and verify all of the timee.io links
# 19:25 aaronpk i can't participate in any of the friday pacific time stuff, but i can join saturday my time
# 19:27 Zegnat Are those UTC times Saturday? I think I can do that, I will be (mostly) home alone on Saturday
# 19:27 Loqi Zegnat: sknebel left you a message 7 minutes ago: added an AutoAuth session to the IWC online proposals
# 19:28 Zegnat Will add name in a bit, phone doesn’t seem to like writing in etherpad at the moment
# 19:28 Zegnat 70 minutes until Zegnat should add himself to AutoAuth event
# 19:28 Loqi I added a countdown scheduled for 2019-03-07 9:38pm CET (#6517)

# 19:59 rrix I wish i coud say the same. work and just barely scraping by otherwise right now
# 20:01 jacky consolidating all of it to be at my place helped a bit (but also severely blurred the line b/w work + personal)
# 20:02 rrix If you can make that work, it seems like a great thing. I would strugge with it though, i think, especially the blur
