#TheFerridgeI'm (re)building a website to keep stuff I make (animations, blogposts and the like). I had heard of webmentions a while ago and I figured it'd be an immensely cool feature to have
#GWGTheFerridge: There's a second plugin that enhances the appearance of webmentions called Semantic Linkbacks if it helps.
#[jgmac1106]you don't know the story of the ferret's love for the refrigerator?
#TheFerridgeHow far would you say webmentions are from an implementation which is noob-friendly? Because at least in my present experience, it's a pain even within the relative ease of wordpress
#[jgmac1106]That is one thing to note TheFerridge, webmentions will always work best when your theme has native microformats2 support
#GWGTheFerridge: I think it is easy. All you do is install and activate.
#[jgmac1106]so if you use SemPress or GWG's theme it works out of box
#GWGSending them will work better. Receiving them depends on the supporting site.
#TheFerridgeso you're saying it's just a matter of the adoption of microformats2?
#[jgmac1106]......if you want to use your own theme and have them display nicely....that works
#[jgmac1106]Yes but "just a matter of the adoption of microformats2" is really hard with WordPress best bet is to use an approved theme
#GWGThat's how the webmention receiver figures out what your website looks like.
#[jgmac1106]see what happened is many themes added microformats when Google was pushing them, when Google moved on to their next flavor of the day nobody removed the older versions....and having both versions messes up everythig
#GWGAlthough the time difference means I won't be there during the day on Friday.
#[jgmac1106]We can do a Getting Started with WordPress on Saturday, if nobody shows up we will do a walkthrough of installing and setting up your theme
#GWG[jgmac1106]: I don't know if I've ever sat in on your explanations.
#GWG[jgmac1106]: I'm still confused about the schedule though

#[jgmac1106]gwg I was confused as well....I thought it was a bit more asynchronous...makes it a bit later for us East Coasters but now I get it....all session in the 2019-03-09 21:00 UTC (16:00 EST, 13:00 PST)

#[jgmac1106]this two day conference, which is really spans three days of time zones is hard
#[jgmac1106]okay its almost 8:00...I gotta get out of this office

#[grantcodes]I would love to hear about how autoauth could work with webauthn if that is a thing that is even possible
#jgmac1106great discussion for #dev channel or grantcodes can indie RSVP to online with zegnat and sknebel and hack on it this weekend
#[grantcodes]Dunno if I'll be around this weekend, but hopefully I can pop in for a bit

#raynaAt indie webcamp in Austin, @gRegor showed me this an awesome tool called tota11y (http://khan.github.io/tota11y/) that checks websites for accessibility. I shared it with colleagues, and today one of them pinged in a GitHub PR with a style modification to improve the contrast of code blocks in our online material :)

#jgmac1106rayna that is awesome…I can’t wait to apply to all my online class stuff, especially color contrast since I am color blind I have no idea what colors I am picking sometimes. I just google palletes …though this elads to me designing mainly in earth tones and grey’s
#Zegnat[grantcodes] I don’t think the two are related. I do want to get into webauthn as a login method for indieauth. But we’ll see what happens :D
#TheFerridgeI'm gonna go and check everything I did against that 'Getting started with wordpress' article, just to make sure I didn't mess anything up
#TheFerridgebut it's just possible that the theme I'm using is incompatible enough with webmention backfeed that it's not worth the hassle of fixing, at least for now
#[jgmac1106]more probable, if you just post your website real quick we can check....some themes work better than most. I for example had on again and off again support with Hueman...there is a microformats plugin but we do not usually recommend it anymore and I am not sure if gwg still mantains it...
#TheFerridgeI'm using OceanWP, possibly the most common open source theme of all
#TheFerridgeis there a better way to do backfeed than through Bridgy?
#TheFerridgenot to bash on it, it sounds great, but it doesn't seem to work well for me

#Loqi[indienews] New post: "I’m working on improving my content processing for my site. The focus is around making more “magic” happen on the fly for me. I should have mentions, auto tagging and emoji to HTML entity ..." https://v2.jacky.wtf/post/7a072422-0a3e-486e-acfa-3c01d60befcb
#jacky!tell [xavierroy],[Vincent] *-audience is a great idea! I can see myself using the plain-text form more often than not since it'll be easier to type out
#LoqiIt looks like we don't have a page for "website" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "website is ____", a sentence describing the term)
