# [tonz] @GWG I’m hesitant to store them in the posts, as I follow hundreds of feeds, a much larger volume than the total number of posts in my blog of the past 17yrs. So it is bloating the db quite a bit. Mostly for now, as I want to tinker with the Yarns code, it means I don’t want to do it on my live site, and risk borking something. (Tinker as in, I’m looking into how I could add tags to feeds, think virtual channels for on the fly subsets: “what
# [tonz] @GWG: purging, yes, although I like to keep things available a longish time (say 6 weeks or so), as my posts referencing stuff usually have a certain gestation time. Agreed, it needs to be stored somewhere. I asked [jackjamieson] on Twitter if there’s a specific reason it is in wp_posts. I think many plugins put their stuff in wp_postmeta, but probably only possible if related to a post in wp_post?

# [jackjamieson] [tonz] Thanks for the suggestion. GWG is correct that I was following his advice. The advantage is that Yarns can easily use WordPress’s built in methods for querying posts. Since feed items are essentially the same as posts, this works pretty well. I share some of your apprehension for filling up wp_posts, especially if you follow a lot of feeds, but I’m not sure if this would actually cause problems in practice. I’m open to using
# [jackjamieson] though would have to think/talk through it to figure out the pros and cons

# chrisaldrich for ease of engineering, I'd recommend to continue using the same table, however...
# chrisaldrich It would be nice if I could set up a separate instance of WP so I could collect huge amounts of reader data without interfering with my main website, then...
# chrisaldrich it would be nice if I could reply in that separate reader server instance and then micropub my responses/replies to my primary site for indicating that I've read/liked/commented on them.
