[manton] Yeah, Jean and I try to be aware of inherent bias. We definitely want a larger and even more diverse team. But Discover also isn't the only way to find people. And I do think it is a good reflection of the types of posts that are coming through Micro.blog.

I don't think that post was quite fair, and I think part of it is fueled by some of it's own bias, because that journey started from a blog post by someone else that left the platform visibly and blogged about it. I know I see a bunch of stuff on Discover that interests me and a bunch that doesn't. So using that as a tell, it feels like you are doing a good job, I would be concerned if everything on there was of interest t

[eddie] But, just keep trying to be aware of bias, and as you can do what you can to grow the moderation team. I think Micro.blog is doing so well, it is often judged by the standards beyond it's age

[eddie] In so many ways, it FEELS like a very stable, older platform. I think you've done so well in some areas, people forget how little amount of time it's really been available to the public and being built

jacky Wow, tbh, if Khurt didn't write this, I might have. I expected something different from micro.blog (an interface that wove different blogs together to encourage social interactions) but it didn't resolve to be that for me.

jacky And I totally stand out on the platform in terms of alignments and what not (younger - not a parent, background, etc etc)

[eddie] I think it's fair to say you may not fit in on the platform or find a community. But I think the issue is it feels like many people then frame it as there is something wrong with Micro.blog

[eddie] But it's never claimed to be the social platform that ends all other platforms

jacky Yeah, I def agree with that. And definitely going in there assuming that is a recipe for disaster

[eddie] I guess what did you expect it to be jacky? If it didn't match your expectations?

jacky Slightly - with discovery being more heralded. If you don't have any pre-existing relationships with people on there then it's hard to find things of interest

jacky But discovery is an infinitely difficult problem. I figured with a semi-centralized platform it would have more of it

[eddie] Interesting. I think the two challenges to these issues are 1: manton prefers to take slower more deliberate steps because it's harder to take steps back then forward.

[eddie] and 2: a quote from Manton's blog post "we need multiple social networks that interoperate via the web instead of just a couple of huge platforms." It's about a plurality of networks, the same way that IndieWeb believes in plurality

[eddie] That doesn't mean it can't be improved

jacky And I think that's the kind of action that has to be taken - making deliberate steps _not_ to do too much

[eddie] I just think for a small team working on the platform for a small amount of time, it's doing a lot of things well, and it'll continue to get better.
