For gamers who like to track their plays, my kids installed the xBox app on my phone to make installation easier... The real time history and updates I get are good. Xbox folks may be able to play with some data

Well...here's another site death. Yahoo Groups will end. "Beginning October 21, you won't be able to upload any more content to the site, and as of December 14 all previously posted content on the site will be permanently removed." https://twitter.com/textfiles/status/1184461099237814273

So OF COURSE Yahoo! is going to stop allowing use of Yahoo! Groups in exactly one week, and OF COURSE Yahoo! is going to delete/wipe ALL content in ALL Yahoo! Groups in 3 months. And OF COURSE the front page says NOTHING about it. https://help.yahoo.com/kb/SLN31010.html https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EHANFJhWoAEVXDu.jpg

interesting quirk of syndicating to/from mastodon: individual instances can have custom emoji that aren't standard unicode chars. https://laurakalbag.com/custom-emoji-on-mastodon/
#
[snarfed]
if a post with one of those gets backfed to an indieweb site, eg via bridgy fed, how should we handle it?
#
[snarfed]
right now the default is that we show its shortcode text inline instead, eg :custom-xyz: . an alternative could be to use a small inline <img>.
#
aaronpk
i would say it should be handled the same way it's handled by other mastodon instances
#
aaronpk
i assume they show the custom emoji image
#
[snarfed]
no afaik, i think they show the shortcode text

just checked and at least in the timeline view the remote custom emoji show up as images
#
aaronpk
mastodon downloads a copy of the image and re-hosts it itself
#
[snarfed]
sorry, you're right, confirmed myself just now
#
[snarfed]
ugh whee
#
aaronpk
guess i'm gonna have to do some updates myself around this now in order to get them to show up in my reader
#
[snarfed]
and on your site in replies

interesting overloading of the "tag" term
#
aaronpk
anyway this is getting more dev
#
aaronpk
as far as the UX is concerned, it appears the goal is to always display the image, and the :shortcode: is only for authoring
#
[snarfed]
yeah sounds reasonable
#
[snarfed]
subtle but maybe smart design decision that custom emojis federate for rendering but not also for authoring
