Hi mblaney, how's it going?
#
mblaney
good oedmarap, how are you?
#
GWG
mblaney: Saw the changelog
#
oedmarap
mblaney: taking a coffee break, gonna dive into some work in a bit :)
#
mblaney
hey GWG yes nice work getting it all started!
#
GWG
mblaney: Took a bit longer than I thought
#
mblaney
I'm thinking of starting a project to automatically copy photos from my phone to my website, anyone heard of something that can do that?
#
[snarfed]
maybe tasker, shortcuts, etc
#
GWG
mblaney: A few options.
#
oedmarap
mblaney depends on how you want to display them on your website
#
GWG
mblaney: Do you want to just add them to a directory or actually post them?
#
oedmarap
Off the top of my head you can probably get away with that using Syncthing/Nextcoud, a bit of rsync where needed, and some JavaScript and a build pipeline if necessary
#
GWG
NextCloud's app has an instant upload feature.
#
GWG
So, you could just monitor that directory when uploaded for new files
#
mblaney
just add them to a directory
#
GWG
mblaney: Then NextCloud's app may work.

I use Nextcloud for this. Wish it copied the little video files that are part of iOS Live Photos

GWG
Hi, [schmarty].
#
mblaney
cool thanks the NextCloud app looks like what I'm after.
#
mblaney
except I don't want to run NextCloud on the server... can I avoid that part somehow?
#
mblaney
also, hi schmarty
#
[schmarty]
Haha hi GWG and mblaney!
#
GWG
mblaney: I run it elsewhere
#
GWG
[schmarty]: I seem to be running an online meetup tomorrow
#
oedmarap
mblaney: You can take a look at https://github.com/photoprism/photoprism and https://github.com/LycheeOrg/Lychee if you want them to be in their own little space as well
#
[schmarty]
I am not aware of a nextcloud-compatible thing that would catch those files for you. I also run it separately from my main site
#
Loqi
[photoprism] photoprism: Personal Photo Management powered by Go and Google TensorFlow
#
[schmarty]
GWG: exciting! I may join if I am free!!
#
GWG
[schmarty]: 6PM, I'm trying the Salt method
#
GWG
Something called Learn Coffee Discussion
#
mblaney
[schmarty], GWG can you access the uploads from your website?
#
Salt[m]
GWG: cool, I'll try to add the couple of changes suggested from last time, like timeboxing intro and etherpad
#
[schmarty]
mblaney: I could, but I don't! I think of nextcloud as doing just the one step of photos from phone to a server without me having to do much
#
mblaney
thanks [schmarty] I'll have a look at it then
#
GWG
Salt[m]: I did in my event
#

mblaney: Keep us posted
#
mblaney
ah they recommend setting up your data directory so that it's outside your web root. So that's the answer to that :-)

I've no idea who else reads History of the Web newsletter, but https://thehistoryoftheweb.com/postscript/april-2020-weblog-learning-to-be-on-a-new-web/ was remarkably salient/on-point from our IndieWeb wiki chat and other chats
#
[LewisCowles]
If they had mentioned wiki gardening, I would have "felt personally targeted by this relatable content", which might be the work of an algorithm, but it's getting all the bias

#
[LewisCowles]
shelves are empty of yeast and I'm uncertain about cultivating my own from fruit

I have sourdough starter aplenty and would gladly send you a dried sample. Also, my banana bread recipe calls chemical leavening.

Just a quick question I canโ€™t seem to find a simple answer to - Do I need to use cPanel alongside a content management system such as Kirby or can I use Kirby independently of cPanel ?
#
sebsel
[Molly]: I think the answer is that they are independent. Kirby is a CMS, cPanel is a tool to manage webhosts. They live on different levels.
#
sebsel
If Kirby is the machine that delivers your website to who-ever is asking, then that machine should sit in a building (a server)
#
sebsel
cPanel is a way to make rooms in that building (to divide the server into accounts)
#
sebsel
so you can also use Kirby on a server with just one big room / without rooms / without cPanel
#
sebsel
and you can also put something else in the room / use cPanel without Kirby.
#
sebsel
Hopefully that makes sense.
#
[Molly]
[sebsel] amazing, yes a really good explanation - thank you for your help !
#
sebsel
yw :)

After the HWC London there was a meeting of the London accessibility group with speakers from Microsoft and Elsewhere covering accessibility, including automated testing tools, which the accessibility experts suggested only cover 30-40% of the cases a dedicated consultant might
