so moving this convo from #indieweb-dev...
#

if you are looking at someon’es post and see the list of people who have liked the post, do you expect that clicking on their face will take you to their profile? or to the per a link of their like?
#
aaronpk
looking at what twitter does, clicking “16 likes” opens up a list of those people who have liked it, and clicking on those takes you to their profile
#
KartikPrabhu
twitter is simpler to answer since likes are not bonafide postst
#
aaronpk
i guess the question is why would someone click on a face in a face pile?
#
aaronpk
like what are you hoping to learn?
#
aaronpk
verifiability is one, “did this person actually like this post?”
#
aaronpk
but you could also be curious about who this person is

[KevinMarks]
On twitter that is what I do - click through to the person who liked my post to see if they're worth following
#
KartikPrabhu
for indieweb-likes I use both "image+name" linked to their *-author info and "website" linked to their like-post.
#
KartikPrabhu
facepiles are too low-fidelity to do both though
#
KartikPrabhu
so you have to pick one I guess
#
aaronpk
right, if you have to pick one, which is it?
#
aaronpk
I suspect most people clicking through don’t actually care about the verifiability of the like
#
KartikPrabhu
yeah, I think liking to their "profile"/homepage
#
KartikPrabhu
since it literally is their "face":
#
KartikPrabhu
I don't expect to click on a "face"/avatar and be taken to a post
#
aaronpk
a related problem is what to do once a post has a significant number of likes, because showing too many images starts to get annoying
#
aaronpk
and now i’m kind of tempted to do what twitter does, which is to load the list of people in a pop only if someone clicks
#
KartikPrabhu
show the most recent "x" and then maybe an expandable element to show rest?

jacky
I'd click on a post to see/learn about that person tbh
#
jacky
that's a ticket for me to implement a hover-card from their h-card for this

getting to the point that i want to be able to search the text of things i’ve liked and reposted

Blogs = still the best representation of the Internet’s promise. Everyone should have a site that they own, not just a social media account (which are great for promoting blog posts).

even better, quickly hits the "how to define ownership' question with two perfect answers: 1) alternatives and portability, 2) owning the domain. https://twitter.com/flybrand/status/1269659133608890369
#
@flybrand
@benthompson @arslibertatis It’s really easy to own the domain through Wordpress. It’s also easy to buy the domain elsewhere, then redirect. Owning your channel provides the best feedback - feedback enables growth.
