Wikimedia Maps no longer permits third-party usage? That doesn't sound right...

Which part is a lie? It sounded like it stopped working...

[tantek]
Pretty sure GWG has details of that

GWG
It's not a terms of service issue
#
[tantek]
Perhaps in practice a service issue even if not in terms

Yeah but you can organize it a bit...kinda like storify...but that was more linear navigation. Let me try and find an example

Boobuigi: you might be interested in this thread then: https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/maps-l/2020-April/001718.html which has a) details on already in place restrictions on third-party users and b) a warning for third-party users to make plans to move off it

you should probably give people the benefit of the doubt that if they do a change to their software because of this, its not because they attempt to intentionally spread false information, but because there is actually a reason why they do so
#
Loqi
I agree
#
Boobuigi
Give me some credit and don't put words in my mouth. I accused nobody of attempting to intentionally spread false information.
#

that's what "lying" is

This is a really thoughtful article about the UX dynamics of Twitter. Really curious what folks like [manton] and [benatwork] think about a “Mea Culpa” feature like this: https://nickpunt.com/blog/deescalating-social-media/

That mea culpa idea is really interesting

Eli Parise had an interesting related idea...

What is facepalm?
#
Loqi
Facepalm or 🤦 is a gesture in which the palm of one's hand is brought to one's face, typically as an expression of disbelief, shame, or exasperation https://indieweb.org/facepalm
#
[tantek]
Right?! Couldn’t quite figure out where to put it on the wiki, e.g. as a Brainstorm for folks to consider in their note posting UIs
#
[tantek]
That’s note quite the same [chrisaldrich] and in particular I’d like to avoid anything that would amplify shame
#
[chrisaldrich]
What is emotional intelligence?
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "emotional intelligence" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "emotional intelligence is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#
[chrisaldrich]
Tantek, Im sure that's why Devon indicates using DM, to not signal shame...
#
[chrisaldrich]
It would be nice to have somewhere to document these....

Maybe /UX#Brainstorming? As a fallback since it seems too broad to put on any one feature page, though /response#Brainstorming is maybe closest
#
[chrisaldrich]
The response page seems most logical and findable to me.

I wonder how well a “thumbs down” type thing makes for the equivalent of a “disapproving glare.” Places that don’t allow people to dislike a thing have the theory that they’re trying to spread positivity but that might have the opposite effect.
#
[fluffy]
Like, lack of thumbs up isn’t the same thing as being disliked.

Facebook kinda-sorta heads in the right direction with the different reactions you can do but some of them are contextually flimsy, like ‘angry’ sometimes means ‘this thing you talked about makes me angry (I agree)’ and sometimes it means ‘this post makes me angry (please reevaluate your life)’ and there’s no way of distinguishing them.
#
[fluffy]
and they constantly double-down on adding more positive or caring reactions, but never add anything that indicates, y’know maybe you should stop.
#
[fluffy]
Sooooo many social networks make the same mistake of having no negative feedback, only positive. Twitter, dev.to, heck that was imzy’s whole Thing.
#
cambridgeport90
I just registered for dev.to, so it's funnythat you say that. I like it, no question about it. I like how it's supported via the web monetization API, as well.

Howdy from Japan. I'm trying to debug an issue with my site where Brid.gy says my posts don't have webmention support. indiewebify.me's webmentions tests work fine. Looking at my access logs and everything from bridgy is getting a 200 response. My site is jamesvandyne.com . Thank you!

I should probably mention I'm using Wordpress with the indieweb plugins all enabled and it _used_ to work. I haven't done anything other than update plugins as new releases become available.

I think I may have figured it out. For some reason rel="webmention" link my header. So an update somewhere must have busted something. Maybe a Wordpress api change or something.
#

It seems that some pages have it, some don't, despite trying to force it some settings to always show it. I'll continue to debug more later, time to get ready for work. Thanks all!
