GWG, here's an interesting use-case request for AQI sensors that the IndieWeb might be able to help with: https://twitter.com/b_cavello/status/1297373461023567872
#
@b_cavello
I kinda wish I could subscribe to notifications/updates from particular Purple Air sensors and set thresholds. Like if it drops below some AQI I’d like to know as well as if it goes above. It could have a tolerance so it’s not always alarming on the cusp, but it would be cool... https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EgEySXzUYAEiUSs.jpg

super ,that took a while
#
kieron-androidtv
guess a android tv box aint good for this as such
#
kieron-androidtv
anyway
#
kieron-androidtv
is their someone there that knows how to setup a icecast server
#
kieron-androidtv
or shoutcast
#
Zegnat
What is icecast?
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "icecast" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "icecast is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#

What is shoutcast?

Hmm, not something we have on the wiki
#
kieron-androidtv
internet radio station
#
kieron-androidtv
ok
#
kieron-androidtv
not sure why my friend suggested you guys
#
Zegnat
We have a broad community. Although we are focussed on personal websites (do you have a home page?) there is lots of experimentation with self hosted video streaming, weather stations, you name it.
#
Zegnat
There may very well be people here who run or have run internet radio, and I just happen tto be the wrong person to ask ;)
#
kieron-androidtv
ok now im getting a picture of why my friend suggested you guys
#
Zegnat
Looks like some people did experiment with icecast! https://indieweb.org/radio
#
kieron-androidtv
ok thank you for that

Morning all. No IndieWeb plans for today, although I may return to sidenotes if everything else goes well.

My plan for today was to integrate webmentions into my blog. I’ve ran into a bunch of other things I want to work on now 🙂
#
[James_Gallaghe]
I’ve been doing general site maintenance: adding pages, improving the structure. I’m hoping to create an Airtable-to-static-site generator so I can create a page listing my coffee brews without having to embed an Airtable into my site.

Morning [James_Gallaghe] Have you set up a profile on the wiki yet? Worth doing. A lot of us have a section of itches, things we plan to work on. You can then also share examples of how you have done things.
#
[James_Gallaghe]
Good call. Let me add that to my to-dos.

Ok, I give up. I'm done until I can get a clear head. Everything is so stupidly complex now and I apparently don't have a mind to wrap around it. /away

So I feel like I should have a fediverse (is that the word?) presence that I own myself — is self-hosting a single-user Mastodon instance probably a good idea for that? Or do folks here like to take a stab at implementing their own ActivityPub as more of an integral part of the rest of their setup?
wolftune and [snarfed] joined the channel
#
[snarfed]
[tb] most people POSSE to mastodon, often with https://brid.gy/ . a few use https://fed.brid.gy/ instead, which is a bit more ambitious. and one or two do build AP directly into their sites, eg aaronpk and soon swentel, but that’s a lot of work
#
[tb]
Hehe yeah I was starting to pour through the ActivityPub spec and was like... well maybe I'll just host my own Mastodon lol
#
[snarfed]
having implemented it, i can definitely confirm. fun, but nontrivial work
jonnybarnes and nickodd joined the channel
#
[tb]
Perhaps that'll be a phase two project once I've gotten the more core IndieWeb things done that I want to implement myself
#
[tb]
Which happens to be a lot of them 😄
[James_Gallaghe] joined the channel
#
[James_Gallaghe]
[tb] What else are you working on implementing?
#
[James_Gallaghe]
I feel exactly the same way. I’ve spent most of my day building IndieWeb extensions on my website. What a weekend! 😄
#
[tb]
I have a long list of core things on my backend monolith 😄 https://github.com/craftyphotons/singulus/issues
#
[tb]
I'd say sending webmentions is probably top priority on the backend at the moment but I've just been fiddling with adding more diverse post type foundations this morning and working on the corresponding theme adjustments in my Hugo theme
#
[James_Gallaghe]
Interesting. I’m curious to hear from you, and everyone else, what the value of having a “Notes” section is. Are you planning to integrate it with other services through POSSE? I’ve been contemplating creating one on my site but I do not use platforms like Twitter and so I am not convinced about it yet.
#
[James_Gallaghe]
(By the way, cool site! I love the shading on the Notes page.)
#
[tb]
Ah thanks!
#
[tb]
A lot of what I'm doing is aspirational towards making myself actually start writing/publishing thigns more
#
[tb]
things*
#
[tb]
I'm going to POSSE my notes selectively to Twitter
#
[tb]
For the look and feel on there — I highly recommend https://bulma.io/ if it fits your needs [James_Gallaghe]
#
[James_Gallaghe]
Interesting. That’s one thing that draws me to Notes: publishing more often. I do write a blog post every day so maybe I’d be taking on too much.

Nitter is a free and open source alternative Twitter front-end focused on privacy.

OH! I bet it is redirecting to a temporary url that then forwards the code to an app url.

[schmarty]
swentel has taken over development on indigenous iOS recently from the previous developer but hasn't made a new release. That will need to get swapped out and maybe in the meantime [eddie] could set it back up??
#
[schmarty]
But yeah I think you're stuck for now 😭. This is also getting into dev chat territory if you want to continue there
