Morning IndieWeb! What itches are you scratching today?

I’ve been working on redoing my “tech stack” pages and I want to expand my weather station a bit.

Morning IndieWeb

[LewisCowles]
I wrote a post about the tech schmarty shared, called pup. I also raised a GitHub issue as a document of something I found when using.
#
Zegnat
What is pup?
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "pup" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "pup is ____", a sentence describing the term)

[Lewis Cowles] Meet pup
#
[LewisCowles]
I hope it lays out what it is without jargoning in the Indieweb channel
#
[LewisCowles]
also some things to watch out for
#
Zegnat
Thanks! Added to the wiki in case it comes up again
#
[LewisCowles]
to the HTML page of the Wiki, or it's own page?
#
Zegnat
Own page, I defined pup

See #indieweb-meta

[LewisCowles]
oh. I might add a link to HTML then, as I think more people might look for that than pup, and then if they want to know more than a cli parser, they can see the page 👍
#
Zegnat
HTML << [[pup]] helps with parsing on the [[command line]]
#
Loqi
ok, I added "[[pup]] helps with parsing on the [[command line]]" to the "See Also" section of /HTML https://indieweb.org/wiki/index.php?diff=72698&oldid=72436
#
Zegnat
There we go
#
[LewisCowles]
Hmm. I was editing at the same time... we both took a different approach
#
Zegnat
Oh, if you are doing a more proper edit, discard mine

I do not have a browser open so I was relying on Loqi

I made a section for tools and then a sub-section for command-line, put it under there. I think it makes it more glanceable, but it's a study of one / opinion thing. Might as well leave both, see which ones help people
#
[LewisCowles]
I suspect different people will be helped differently
#
Zegnat
Moving things out of See Also and into content proper is always nice, IMO :)

I was wondering if we could have a session at IWC East where we reflect upon IndieWeb outside the Internet. Say if someone has some how incorporated one or the other IndieWeb principles or about connecting or being in control of content outside the web. Or selfdogfooding personal home projects. Sort of like a bridge between lives outside and on the web.
#
[Chaitanya]
Another thing could be... how you do daily things reflect on your website. Or how things done on your website reflect upon daily life.

sounds like a good session topic, yes

[Chaitanya]: session proposals are collected here it seems: https://indieweb.org/2020/East/Proposals

The fact people license art instead of own art pains my soul
#
petermolnar
that is an interesting problem of a, modern times b, art that is not unique. One can still own a painting.
#
petermolnar
to do the same with music, well..
#
[jgmac1106]
I can also own prints of paintings or even the blocks that printed the art. More chat but I have a lot of nerdy concert poster friends....numbered prints, etc...I own 70 GB of music. No one can take it when I stop my siubscriptions
#
[jgmac1106]
@petermolnar what would be other examples of [Chaitanya] of content outside the web (though for IWC's I would want a connection to your personal site...otherwise check out that "content's network"
#
[jgmac1106]
"Oustide the web" could mean just storing your data on your own server..
#
[jgmac1106]
Video game companies trying to force digital downloads. They do not want gamers owning art anymore
#
[jgmac1106]
Physical games can be resold and borrowed...digital downloads deleted
#
[jgmac1106]
so there is an "Indie" vibe there as well. I just suggest for IndieWeb events the web not forgotten..maybe a session on the connection but better for meta channel

supporting artists and supporting resale of media don’t really go together. https://snarfed.org/2011-11-16_should_first_sale_doctrine_die

(sorry, we should probably => #indieweb-chat)
#
[jgmac1106]
[snarfed] gotta feed the kids... But want to return to this (already burnt something thinking about difference of art and the media that delivers it) but BRB... Maybe
#
[jgmac1106]
2011 before streaming and streaming services... DRM digital download is physical ownership IMO. Artist royalties on 9.99 a month streaming is garbage...

Moving to chat
#
[jgmac1106]
Meant DRM free download = physical "indie" ownership... Anything that can be turned off is not
