lol I saw muggedtweets.com as a POSSE destination and wondered if I’m the first person to have POSSEd a note to a cuneiform tablet via https://dumbcuneiform.com
#
barnaby
if they had an API that’d be a very funny (albeit expensive) POSSE checkbox to add to a posting UI
#
barnaby
this is the note I “POSSEd” to a tablet https://waterpigs.co.uk/notes/4_61Xg/

[Barnaby Walters] Barnaby’s carrot cake recipe: Search the web for “carrot cake recipe” (such as this one) Halve the amount of sugar, double the amount of carrots It will probably taste awesome.
#
barnaby
I’ll see if I can find the tablet and add a photo of it to the syndication destinations
#
[tantek]
nice. I want a robot that will carve my notes into the sand at the seashore, as a metaphor for POSSEing to silos
#
barnaby
that’d be a fun art project
#
aaronpk
that seems quite doable
#
barnaby
the robot would need quite a lot of mass to be able to draw a solid line in damp sand
#
aaronpk
or just a couple good anchors
#
barnaby
true, then it’d be more of a portable large-scale plotter
#
aaronpk
that's kind of what i was picturing :) like an axidraw
#
aaronpk
but this is quickly veering off into #indieweb-chat territory
#
[tantek]
Or you do it by extrusion instead, letter-shaped blocky sandcastles
#
[tantek]
ephemeral 3d "printing" as it were
#
[tantek]
using local raw materials
#
[tantek]
plus you get that pixelated look and could pretend it's web3
#
[tantek]
ok wait how is this not already a thing, a bot that digs up dirt and uses it to "write" in pixelated fonts across any flat earthen/sand surface? like how is it no one has built this for burning man for example? solar powered of course

[snarfed]
I wonder if any workable treads or wheels or other drive system would be enough to ruin the writing
#
[snarfed]
ah it's already in #indieweb-chat, sorry 😆
#
[tantek]
all good [snarfed]. you can "paint" behind you, each letter top to bottom (baseline), left to right without any worry of driving over the writing

One of the things I occasionally get paid to do by companies/execs is to tell them why everything seemed to SUDDENLY go wrong, and subs/readers dropped like a stone. So, with everything going on at Twitter rn, time for a thread about the Trust Thermocline /1

Idea and request: For official Indieweb dot org site -- if someone could do the server work with this (https://feed2toot.readthedocs.io/en/latest/) I would integrate that into bot accounts on our http://indieweb.social instance. I'm thinking a bot for "This week in Indieweb" and other news/posts that are or could be exposed in RSS... It would be a good way to get these posts into the Mastodon community overall....

[snarfed]
[timothy_chambe] fun! you can do that with https://granary.io/ now if you want, just log in as one of the bot users, then grab the URL for converting to RSS
#
[snarfed]
the awkward part is that that granary URL will include a read-only access token for the bot user. may be fine if it doesn't do anything private, but still, not ideal

[snarfed]
I can look into adding granary support for non-authenticated API calls like public timelines!
#
Loqi
[snarfed]: it looks like this conversation is getting pretty technical (RSS, API), can you take it to #indieweb-dev?
#
[snarfed]
oh wait sorry you're talking about the opposite, RSS to Mastodon toots
#
[snarfed]
but yeah we have the official https://twitter.com/indiewebcamp account, an official Mastodon account sounds reasonable
#
[snarfed]
unrelated, just discovered that GitHub evidently doesn't index user profile URLs. https://github.com/search?q=www.timothychambers.net&type=users doesn't find https://github.com/Timothyjchambers , nor does removing the www. or adding http:// . 😢
#
[tantek]1
someone needs to build GitHub people search heh
#
[snarfed]
well that escalated quickly
#
[snarfed]
I was just thinking bug report 😆
#
AramZ-S[m]
I think maybe if you do that new Description card for your account?
#
[snarfed]
sure, maybe! but user profile URLs should also be indexed
#
[schmarty]1
there are very good reasons for github not to index user profile URLs 😅
#
barnaby
[schmarty]1: spoofing? because they’d have to include a rel-me verification step?
#
[snarfed]
that's...generous

#
[KevinMarks]1
They do output rel=me, but they don't check it inbound like mastodon
#
[schmarty]1
reducing incentives for spam and fraud are the major ones that come to mind.
#
[snarfed]
maybe! but unlikely. afaik they'd be the only major silo (besides Mastodon) with that rationale
#
[snarfed]
I'm guessing it's just an oversight
#
[snarfed]
oh wait sorry Mastodon may index too. so I don't even know of any other major silo that doesn't index profile URLs
#
[snarfed]
anyway. not a big deal

I'm trying to set up IndieAuth using my site, but I think maybe there are fewer supported authentication providers than before? On the IndieAuth site it says "Add links on your home page to your various social profiles (Twitter, Github, etc) with the attribute rel="me""
#
bterry1
But, even though Twitter is listed as an example, the site says it no longer works due to a change at Twitter. So I'm curious if anything aside from maybe Github is a supported provider.
#
gRegor
Hi bterry1, are you trying to only do web sign in? If so you probably want https://indielogin.com/setup instead of indieauth.com. We can discuss more in #indieweb-dev (for technical topics)

Thanks, that indeed was the situation. I was trying to sign in on https://indieauth.com/ and it failed, but just trying the indieweb.org site works fine. Thx :-)
