Hello. I tried joining the slack, but got a server error upon doing so.

I have a theory that the lifetime of a link is most often inversely correlated to the size of the organization managing the website

Could be a Conway's Law thing - the organization reorgs itself and then the website has to change to match

^ good post, and his custom fediverse profile on his site is especially interesting, formatted like Mastodon/Twitter and has a remote follow UI

<[snarfed]> "^ good post, and his custom..." <- You never see that on custom posts... one thing that gets me is the new follow UI in Mastodon 4. drives me batty.

Basically you have to paste the link to somebody's profile into the search field of your instance and then follow them from it rather than doing the act from handle thing, like they used to have it.
#
[snarfed]
yup 🀷
#
aaronpk
i think they expect you to live inside your own instance more often now that you can browse remote peoples' profiles and posts from inside your own

[Bob Wyman] Why do I need both Mastodon and a Blog Reader? Why couldn't one interface satisfy both needs? What, other than content length and breadth of HTML support, is the fundamental difference between micro-blogging and blogging?@evan @blaine @KevinMarks
#
barnaby
for me, yes
#
[KevinMarks]
OK, I wasn't sure with the new js;dr version if you need to be logged in
#
barnaby
afaik the move to the js;dr version unified the experience for logged in vs logged out users
#
[KevinMarks]
Not quite, the explore pages are often different.

#
barnaby
that was mentioned as the intention in the release notes
#
[KevinMarks]
I need to write the js;dr issue up even if it gets closed
#
barnaby
happy to help with drafting it, esp. if you want to frame it around it breaking mf2
#
[snarfed]
reading that thread ^, it's funny that one part of old Twitter that's currently still in Mastodon is human-visible canoes
#
barnaby
canoes?
#
[snarfed]
the automatic @-mentions of everyone previously in the thread that you're replying to
#
[KevinMarks]
In mastodon they count against post length still, unlike twitter
#
barnaby
wonder how long that’ll last
#
[snarfed]
Mastodon post length is also interesting. evidently it accepts federated posts that are longer, eg my first post on https://indieweb.social/@snarfed.org@snarfed.org (only works on an instance you're logged into)
#
[snarfed]
I think it folds themon timelines and makes you click to see the full length
#
[snarfed]
has anyone here ever performed an IndieWeb unfollow, ie posted a u-follow-of and then later 410 deleted it? https://indieweb.org/unfollow#How
#
[snarfed]
borderline #indieweb-dev 🀷

is that how we decided how unfollows should work or is that a brainstorm suggestion?

[tantek]
and oh I'm going to redirect to #indieweb-dev before Loqi slaps
