[TMichelleMoore] I think I found a workaround for the Bridgy Mastodon auth bug. feel free to try publishing, login, etc!
#
[TMichelleMoore]
[snarfed] I will!!
#
[TMichelleMoore]
[snarfed] When I click the get token button, I get this error “The redirect uri included is not valid.” But seems very promising!!
#
[snarfed]
Hrm, that's unrelated. Try disabling and re-enabling publish?
#
[TMichelleMoore]
[snarfed] I logged out completely and back in. Remember that publish step I asked you to do for me in the background? Could that be it?
#
[snarfed]
Hmm, no, shouldn't be
#
[TMichelleMoore]
1. [snarfed] Confirming the steps:
#
[TMichelleMoore]
1. Navigate to brig.gy
#
[TMichelleMoore]
2. Select Mastodon
#
[TMichelleMoore]
4. Enter Mastodon server name
#
[TMichelleMoore]
3. Click Cross-post…
#
[TMichelleMoore]
6. Screen appears with Backfeeding responses on left.
#
[TMichelleMoore]
5. Enter Mastodon username and password
#
[TMichelleMoore]
7. Click the Ready to Publish Get Token button on right.
#
[TMichelleMoore]
8. If working correctly, token appears at the top. (This is where I am seeing my picture and the “The redirect uri included is not valid.“)
#
[TMichelleMoore]
Are these the correct steps especially 7 and 8?
#
[snarfed]
that's starting from scratch, generally you don't need to do all of that. to try to work around the redirect uri error, try clicking Disable next to Ready to Publish on https://brid.gy/mastodon/@tmichellemoore@mastodon.social , and then click the Mastodon button there to re-enable publish

#
[TMichelleMoore]
I disabled and renenabled. That worked. Do I have to Get Token?
#
[snarfed]
if you want a token, sure
#
[TMichelleMoore]
That sounds like that’s not the regular step to get the token.
#
[TMichelleMoore]
Should I at that point be able to publish a post in WordPress and check the Mastodon via Bridgy Webmention button instead of the Mastodon via Bridgy Micropub button?
#
[TMichelleMoore]
Correcting my first sentence… That sound like clicking that Get Token button isn’t the normal step in the process.
#
[snarfed]
yeah you only need to do all this and get a token once, not every time you post
#
starrwulfe[m]
[snarfed]: got a separate question re: syndicating to micro.blog when you get a chance.
#
[snarfed]
starrwulfe huh, I'm probably not the right person for that
#
[snarfed]
[TMichelleMoore] feel free to follow https://github.com/snarfed/bridgy/issues/1344

starrwulfe[m]: I wrote the micro.blog code in the plugin
#
[TMichelleMoore]
[snarfed] +++ Subscribed. Also I just tried the Webmention selection and got a different error. I think whatever you developed has changed something because I haven’t seen this before. The Mastodon Webmention selection didn’t seem to do anything but the behavior is different. Thank you for looking into this!!!!

[snarfed]
[TMichelleMoore] looks like that error was for https://tmichellemoore.com/blog/testing-brid-gy-publish-2023-01-10-1127/ ? Bridgy returned 400 because it has no h-entry or other post mf2. Not sure why the plugin couldn't show the error
#
starrwulfe[m]
<GWG> "starrwulfe: I wrote the micro...." <- I see— What do I need to do at microblog to work with it?
#
GWG
starrwulfe[m]: On the providers page, there is a hidden feed URL. Copy that into the feed option at Micro.blog.
#
GWG
Micro.blog is fed by feeds, so that just creates a feed that consists of only what you checked the box on.

it's that time of the night when I need to check my BridgyFed notifications and see what I should reply to
#
Loqi
[preview] [Tantek Çelik] 11 years ago today, Ryan Barrett (https://snarfed.org/ @schnarfed) launched Bridgy (https://brid.gy/) to copy #socialmedia replies as comments on original blog posts. This meant those of us building #IndieWeb sites could use a service for that funct...
#
[tantek]
WDYM can't? You post to your own site with in-reply-to linked to the post you are replying to. Nothing can stop you from doing that on your own site
#
starrwulfe[m]
Says “invalid content type” when my micropub client parses the URL
#
Loqi
hey [tantek], starrwulfe[m]: we try to keep jargon (in-reply-to, content type, Micropub, parses) out of this channel to make it more inviting to newcomers, can you move this to #indieweb-dev?
#
starrwulfe[m]
I’ll try an alternative micropub server and see if that’s the issue

I'm going to have to come back to this article I'm writing and the rabbit holes it's led me into tomo--well, okay, it's after midnight here. Uh, later, I guess. It be bedtimes. Good night, Indieweb.

Hello! If I set up an IndieWeb site using WordPress, how do I find other users so I can read their stuff, and how do I make it easiest for them to find me?

what is discovery?

[tantek]
TBH I'm not a fan of virtual online multitrack confs especially BarCamp like. My experience has been that they’re not very useful and attendance is quite low
#
[tantek]
so I doubt I'm going to put any energy into it
#
[aciccarello]
I'm confused about how that even works. I imagine that contributes to low attendance.

what is Take Back Your Web
#

Beyond Tellerrand is (often abbreviated btconf) an annual web conference in Düsseldorf, Germany since 2011 (additional cities since), which has supported and helped sponsor the adjacent IndieWebCamp Düsseldorf annually since 2015 https://indieweb.org/Take_Back_Your_Web
