TIL .io domains are really expensive. $40 (US)/year, vs. $6/year for .com. Interesting.
#
[tantek]
what is .io
#
Loqi
io may refer to: input/output .io country code top-level domain (ccTLD) Google's annual IO conference https://indieweb.org/io
#
[tantek]
it's also got a bunch of criticism documented

I wasn't actually shopping for an .io domain (though I have given it a passing thought from time to time). I just logged into my registrar and noticed the pricing disparity.
#
btrem
Hmm. I just went to the link you posted, and found no criticism, nor really much content. That page is a stub. :-o

Is the criticism of .io based on abuse of a ccTLD? I imagine the same criticism would then apply to .me.
#
[tantek]
no it's detailed on the ccTLD page
#
[tantek]
yeah, not obviously discoverable, I'll add something

First TPAC 2023 post published: https://tantek.com/2023/262/b1/w3c-technical-plenary-tpac — might be more #indieweb-dev relevant but I figure most folks here are interested in standards at at least a high level

[tantek] Has anybody bothered to calculate how much (environmental) cost is associated with TPAC going back to in-person instead of hybrid or remote?
geoffo and btrem joined the channel

[tantek]
omz13 it is hybrid. Remote TPAC didn't really work. Similarly remote WG "meetings" don't work well either (people get tired like 3x faster, more arguments etc). That's a whole separate blog post
#
[tantek]
Also more for #indieweb-chat than here. Or maybe #indieweb-meta if you want to chat the diffs between in-person IWC and the online versions

capjamesg, have you connected your "write your code on paper" implementation to the last time executable code on paper was a thing?

No [tantek]?

mhoye! checking email now. also you should invite [snarfed] who has expressed some interest (and is the creator of Bridgy & Bridgy Fed which literally do Federated data transfer, across heterogenous systems, perhaps the most prominent such implementation) https://chat.indieweb.org/dev/2023-09-20#t1695231051964000
