apparently I don't have the code working yet to markup hashtags in my article names/titles, so I'll have to experiment with that another time

I see that Mastodon shows the article name as unlinked and the bridgy fed permalink underneath it. so it should theoretically work markup and autohyperlink any hashtags in the article name
#
[snarfed]
Mastodon doesn't do much itself, it expects hashtags in AS2 Tag attachments in a very specific form, which Bridgy works hard to generate: https://github.com/snarfed/bridgy-fed/blob/5214c77f6aa63361af5aa6d0335bef1cebffdd3a/activitypub.py#L594-L614
#
[snarfed]
it gets those from u-category mf2, regardless of any HTML in content or title
#
[snarfed]
the one thing Mastodon does, and that we all bent over backward to get, is rewriting hashtag HTML links in content to point to the local instance's search. https://fed.brid.gy/docs#hashtags , and described in the code snippet

[preview] [Fabio Manganiello] I started my Mastodon instance a few years ago. It used to run on a Raspberry Pi in its early days.It has now reached the point where I have to run it on a Linode machine with 16GB of RAM - and even there it sucks up 4GB of RAM, despite a very low lo... https://social-media.platypush.tech/media_attachments/files/111/097/391/322/838/425/original/3c77c298643fba11.png

^ unfortunate leap from Mastodon to "any federated server." there are surely much leaner implementations, esp single-user
#
[schmarty]
i was just wondering if there are folks sharing stats about their use of wordpress-activitypub

[snarfed]
data transfer project is running a mini conference next week: https://dtinit.org/events
#
[tantek]
fascinating, also called "The Federated Data Transfer Miniconference"
#
[tantek]
[snarfed] that sounds exactly up your alley
#
[snarfed]
talking with them right now in a fediforum session
#
AramZS
This is really interesting.
#
AramZS
I'd love to see stuff like data exports converging towards common formats out of this type of work
#
AramZS
Also... Didn't know qiqochat did shared notes!
#
capjamesg
It looks like Etherpad.
#
capjamesg
How do I join this meeting? 😄
#
capjamesg
I joined a Zoom but there was one person in it.
#
AramZS
Yeah, totally is from the icon
#
AramZS
Good to see it still in use. I helped work on a WordPress integration for Etherpad many years ago. I dunno if it is still getting used.
#
capjamesg
Cool I'm in now.
#
AramZS
capjamesg: how'd you get on?
#
capjamesg
I was already registered.
#
capjamesg
I clicked the Room 2 link on the homepage after signing in.
#
AramZS
Oh, I don't think I'm registered at all. I'd love to get involved tho

if I were available to be an active participant for most of it, I would register for a normal ticket but I've got tons of work meetings (and TPAC blog posts to write-up, also on the topic of social/fedi things) so I'm not going to be paying for a $40 ticket
#
AramZS
Yeah, same unf
#
[tantek]
(also the "$1.99 – $250" [ Get Tickets ] on that page is a bit deceptive because the $1.99 tickets are "sold out". when you click [ Get Tickets ], the lowest option is $40)
#
[tantek]
I suppose you can call anything an "unconference", however in my opinion and experience, actual BarCamps, unconferences either charge zero, or *if they are in-person* they may charge a minimum amount like $5-10 just to get a more accurate count of who will show up for proper meals / space planning. A virtual unconference / BarCamp should not be charging anything IMO.
#
aaronpk
IIW is an interesting one there, since the entire agenda is an unconference, but the tickets are quite expensive
#
[tantek]
Yeah I have expressed my opinions about that in the past and especially for the type of audience it biases towards
#
starrwulfe
I’m interested in the kinds of demos that will be done there since I also have the day off from my day job, but the price scared me away
#
[tantek]
Is there a free broadcast one can watch?
#
[snarfed]
$40 isn't cheap, and it's not the $0-10 we might like, granted...but it's not that expensive, especially compared to many other more "produced" tech industry conferences with prices in the high hundreds
#
[tantek]
Or an IRC chat channel?
#
[snarfed]
[tantek] afaik no but they publish session notes afterward
#
[tantek]
agreed [snarfed] — however IMO $40 is out of range for an online-only "unconference". It's a matter of labeling. Call it an "online conference of breakout sessions"
#
[snarfed]
they discussed pricing just now. sounds like something like 1/3-1/2 of attendees were on the $1.99 tickets
#
[tantek]
What's the point of even charging that for online?
#
[tantek]
Like there's no downsides to online no shows right?
#
[tantek]
This is more #indieweb-meta tho I admit
#
[snarfed]
eventbrite fee for ticketing
#
[tantek]
huh. IIRC eventbrite waived fees for free events, maybe that doesn't apply to free tickets to events that have paid tickets as an option?
#
[tantek]
or, no need to use eventbrite for the free sign-ups
#
[tantek]
anyway, as an organizer, I'm not really buying it
#
[snarfed]
sure. I don't have strong opinions here, not really trying to defend anything, just relaying info
#
[snarfed]
(not trying too hard at least)
#
[tantek]
yeah it's good to know the context of such things
#
[tantek]
[snarfed] should Bridgy Fed be listed in this table? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fediverse#Software
#
[snarfed]
...sure? you'd probably know better than me
