Hi guys, I'm new to indieweb. honestly, I am a bit lost with all the jargon from this community. As far as I understand, indieweb is a community for people that has their own personal site (cmiiw?), simple enough. but then there's webmention, microformats, etc. that really confuses me. is there any pages or posts that includes the definition of all the jargon and terminology that we use?

Well, those are building blocks to enhance your website and allow interoperability with other websites.

Happy to discuss

Welcome, fadhln[d]!

There is no technical knowledge required to participate in the IndieWeb!

But why not look at /Getting_Started

hey IWDiscord: can you move the tech talk (Microformats) to #indieweb-dev to keep this channel more inclusive and inviting?

Webmention lets you send messages (i.e. likes, comments) from your website to someone else's. microformats lets you structure blog posts and other content in a way that software can understand.
#
capjamesg
All of this technology can be used to connect with other websites!

You can ask our bot, Loqi, for help!

What is getting started?
#
capjamesg
Aahh, we need to fix that in Discord.

thank you for the welcome guys! after a very quick read, I get that indieweb is a movement where we create and publish our content on our own site/platform, and through utilizing tools like webmention and microformats, we can become more "connected" to the rest of the community. am I in the right direction?

GWG
I think you are.

[tantek] re video posts on the fediverse, serving videos is outside the protocol, but it looks like some instances do download and re-host. eg in this post, the AS2 Video attachment URL is on http://snarfed.org, but viewing the post on indieweb.social (which is on masto.host), its web UI is serving the video from cdn.masto.host

(probably => #indieweb-dev)

hi gRegor, I currently have one running at https://fadhln.my.id but I am planning to create a new one 😄

Nice!

A common question we ask is "what's the next thing you'd like to do on your personal site" which can help guide you, otherwise the wiki can get a bit overwhelming if you're digging into each of the building blocks...

We have virtual events most weeks, Homebrew Website Club, good opportunity to meet people, ask questions, and demo things you've done on your site: https://events.indieweb.org/tag/hwc

Pacific and London ones are virtual, Nuremberg is in person

I am not so sure about this myself.. to be honest, I just got really inspired by the idea of digital garden by Maggie Appleton's post, and I want to create a personal website that sort of actualize that concept
#
gRegor
what is digital garden
#
Loqi
🌱🪴 A digital garden is a particular practice of creating & growing an online and public IndieWeb presence that focuses more on topics & relationships than a timeline like blogs, has content of different levels of development, is imperfect and often a playground for experimentation, learning, revising, iteration, and growth for diverse content, perhaps interlinked with other digital gardens https://indieweb.org/digital_garden
