[Murray]Really wanted to make it down for this, but I just don't think it'll be possible. A major issue is that I won't have access to a laptop for that weekend – slightly limiting! 😄
[Murray]That's a nice idea; I may even have a friend locally I could borrow from, now you mention it. The laptop isn't the only issue right now (and I don't love the idea of trying to set up a dev environment on the fly 😄), but I'll have a think 🙂
[Paul_Robert_Ll]Ha! Hopefully a few camps in Germany this year, those might be easier to get to… and I’d be tempted to attend one, too. You’ll get your pint this year, I’m sure!
sam_bHi all, nice to meet you! I’m new to the IndieWeb community but am interested in joining the IndieWebCamp in March. I’m not currently blogging regularly but I have a bit of web dev background and am definitely interested in new web stuff, in particular their social effects. If you think those topics are relevant to the event then I’d love to join, but don’t want to take a place away from someone else. Happy to hear your thoughts on this!
[Paul_Robert_Ll]Hey sam_b; only requirement for attending an IndieWebCamp is enthusiasm! Be great to see you at the camp in March; tickets to RSVP go live later today.
irongeekWow, you blog a lot James. I started to look through your blog, a lot of interesting items to take in. I have been following the IndieWeb scene for a few years but never checked out the IRC channels before.
[schmarty]catching up on a few days of discussion. _oof,_ the way the folks announcing the Castro purchase and future app updates feeling the need to specify that they will _not_ be adding chatbot functionality. what a state we are in.
sam_b@capjamesg[d] loving your site's layout too! very nostalgic backgrounds 😅 my header background is just a tiny webgl shader that works on a small noise texture. it's been through a few iterations to reduce the GPU load, and I've considered removing it in favour of a 'low-tech' page, but hopefully it's worth the 'cost' ^^
sam_b@Al_Abut thanks! I kinda realised after-the-fact that minimizing the page weight to this extent probably doesn't achieve much, but it's a nice challenge and has accidentally given it an cool-ish aesthetic
gRegorLove_ and [jeremycherfas] joined the channel
[tantek][Murray] dev environment? BBEdit has a free fully functional 30-day trial on new installs. That plus the built-in Terminal app should suffice right? :) though I suppose we should chat dev env in #indieweb-dev
[Al_Abut]You have to set something called a “chat username” on your user page. You can go to mine and hit edit to see the formatting: https://indieweb.org/User:Alabut.com
cambridgeport90I figured I would run this by you guys...just ran across the disroot Searx instance (apps.disroot.org) and it appears that they have been suspended by three search engines for too many requests; Duckduckgo, quant, and Brave. are those not alternatives to the big three, hence should allow more requests by default?
