# _tommys capjamesg[d] i updated my site to contain the latest updates and a bit about my process š
# _tommys https://tsxyz.neocities.org - there's the 4 most recent toots, which are from my indieweb.social profile, and then a page that documents them all at /micro š

# _tommys thanks š you said you liked to see the process, and i'd wanted to try out some methods of documenting it that were relatively low friction, and i think this works for me š
# _tommys i can see that marginalia.nu relies on manually populated list of domains for it's search index - has there ever been an established protocol for 'signaling' that your website is on the indieweb?
# _tommys i'm thinking like a meta tag that an indie web crawler would recognise. but wouldn't be prone to abuse.. lol

# _tommys i'm not too familiar with Marginalia, but i would hope that's not permitted or should be flagged at least!
# [tantek] I need to get better about checking my mentions on http://micro.blog
# [tantek] One of the top results when I searched on http://marginalia.nu was to a 2019 thread where apparently I had "liked" a bunch of tweets and it looked real bad in http://micro.blog (like broken spam). Pretty sure I stopped putting likes in my feed to http://micro.blog so that shouldn't be a problem but I should have seen it at the time

# mahboubine I love the retro style
# DusteD mahboubine, I also just joined this channel because I (re)read aarons post, didn't realize it was on libera :P
# DusteD (the indieweb stuff, which I've still not quite figured out how is different from what I've done since 1999)
# mahboubine I am actually the poster of the hackernews post. the reason I posted was particularly to find out if aaron was still active on irc or not
# mahboubine nice to meet you!
# mahboubine love your work.

# sodimel Hi! I'm a french dev and I saw the post on hn too, great post aaronpk :)

# sodimel I must also say that I already stumbled across the indieweb website, and that I read several pages on its wiki. I really like the "people-focused" spirit :)
# sodimel So thanks indieweb for being here :)
# sodimel Wow, I really must take inspiration of Known for the layout of the readme of a small project of mine. That's a service to store/organize/share links (open source of course, my own instance is selfhosted on an old dell optiplex fx160 in my home :D).
# capjamesg [edit] https://jamesg.coffee/
# sodimel Nice!
# sodimel My project is named "share-links", you can take a look at the only instance (afaik) up and running just here: https://links.l3m.in/en/
# sodimel I *should* add tags & descriptions, but I can't find the time to sort all the links right now :P
# sodimel You can find a list of features in the readme on the repo (https://gitlab.com/sodimel/share-links).
# sodimel Thanks, I spent a lot of time thinking about the menu. The horizontal scrolling seems to be effective on mobiles, and it's fun on computers too :D
# sodimel (I set the browser default page to the random link, so each time I open my browser I find another cool *curated* article :D)
# sodimel Ahah :D
# sodimel There's tons of interesting things wandering on the web, I can't see and store all of them but my collection of links is growing nearly every day, and they are all interesting (at least for me :D).
# DusteD I'm having a lot of fun running a little, very manual webring, so people send links my way, it's a fun way to interact with people, when I accept someones site I usually make an effort to write welcome to them in their guestbook or mail them if I can :)
# ffflick where are people coming from?
# ffflick or is it just a small irl circle of people
# DusteD inspired by my application process to tilde.town (a community I since left due to some differences of opinon), but what tickled my fancy was that I wasn't let in for more than a week because the person running it had other stuff to take care of and didn't have time to look at applications, charming I thought!

# Loqi The indieweb is different from previous efforts like blogging, federation, decentralization, etc https://indieweb.org/beyond_blogging
# ffflick DusteD: oops meant to tag you lol, i was asking about your webring
# DusteD fflick, so, my webring made frontpage on HN for long enough that the word got around, initially, most people must have come from there, but then it spread via rss and other news sites, it's been a year or more, so I don't know how people learn of it these days, maybe from other sites that are members
# mahboubine care to share your webring?
# DusteD sure, it's called geekring.net :)
# Loqi The indieweb is different from previous efforts like blogging, federation, decentralization, etc https://indieweb.org/different_from_1999
# DusteD [tantek], thank you, I'll have a looksie! ^_^

# mahboubine cool webring, dusted, I'll probably add the widget and request to join at the end of the week
# sodimel Huhu, I wanted to add your webring to my share-links instance, but it's already saved :D
# DusteD Cool, I'll be looking forward, you can add the widget after acceptance and your site gets a number for the wiget (I know I could make this automatic, but I like having this little finicky part where some human interaction can happen)
# DusteD [tantek], maybe I can't see what indieweb is because it's what I feel like I've been doing always? hosting my own site, own domain, on server hardware on my own internet connection in my home, building and using my own tool for it? Maybe I'm missing some technical stuff ? integration of some APIs or something?
# DusteD I need to really sit down and read through the thing some day, to find out what it "is" what I need to implement or do to "be part" of it
tbsp joined the channel
# DusteD I mean, I massively agree with the ideas and principles I read on the site, I'm in no way challenging it, but I'm not sure exactly how to participate ^_^
# DusteD [snarfed], Okay, I'll do that, I'll do some more homework on it before joining there and starting to ask questions :)
# [snarfed] even fully managed services like http://micro.blog can be fully indieweb in both spirit and practice
# DusteD [snarfed], oh I understand that, I think that'd be a silly piece of gatekeeping to require, and self-hosting has only become more and more annoying with time :)

# [0x3b0b] https://glitch.com/jams/ To be more precise, the code jam tag is "welcometomyblog" and that's about making glitch projects that are _about_ blogging, and they are also creating a blogroll that is presumably for bloggers who also use glitch but not necessarily for blogs _on_ glitch. I misread it at first.
