I wasn't too happy that the AP to AT proto brid.gy was set up to be the only singular instance; it's open source but not easy to fork.
#
sandra
But the new opt-in system might be a route to solving that? Since people have to opt in, they can opt in to their favorite instance of the bridge, is what I'm thinking.
#
sandra
Since I'm not too invented in AT proto I'm happy to use the main instance of the bridge (to the extent that it supports Akkoma). Thank you for making it.
#
[tantek]
indeed! bridgy++

#
sandra
On Akkoma where moderation can be more fine grained it might be possible to make an MRF to moderate specific Bluesky instances. I made a feature request about that https://akkoma.dev/AkkomaGang/akkoma/issues/774
#
sandra
(That's once Akkoma starts working with brid.gy; it currently doesn't [or maybe it's vice versa].)

are indie fonts (that you can use on the web) indieweb enough or at least indieweb adjacent enough? https://news.artnet.com/art-world/doves-typeface-2454807 — looks beautiful, also points for /longevity, and TIL: mudlarking
#

capjamesg ^ this intersects with a few of your interests I believe
#

also [KevinMarks] who perhaps has been to Emery Walker's house (private museum), which sounds like it has many sources of inspiration for independent creators & artists

#
[tantek]
ok that "reconstru5⃣ion" is in the original page, how weird
#
pcarrier
Am I missing something?
#
[tantek]
^ capjamesg, I feel like that's been asked and you have answered that enough times that it belongs in /discuss#FAQ
#
[tantek]
oh oops this was also in #indieweb-meta which is more appropriate for it. answering there
#
[tantek]
to bring things back on topic, the Apple crushing the tools of creativity ad seem particularly anti-indie-creator: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cld0rxlqgggo
#
[Joe_Crawford]
Yeah, missed the mark… I’ve seen multiple criticisms of it around the web. I loved David Letterman’s bits crushing things with a press back in the day but to make it a commercial is weird. I’ve not seen commercial yet. I did see their wayfinding/cosplay one and it was charming though.
#
capjamesg
[tantek] That ad feels insensitive. I have seen a lot of criticism about it. I liked the embedded argument in that guide about how craftspeople value their tools. That ad is the destruction of those tools.
#
[tantek]
the ad is horrible, that was my point
#
capjamesg
Yeah. I agree.
#
[tantek]
I saw it completely out of context, not knowing what it was, and thought wow this is one expensive art piece to convey an emotionally jarring physical metaphor of *capitalism squeezing, crushing, and slowly flattening & eliminating all forms of independent creative expression*, and then was like WTF who in their right mind thought this would be inspiration to BUY a product?!?
#
capjamesg
Someone on Twitter reversed it, so everything was broken, then fixed 😂
#
[tantek]
oh my goodness please share
#
capjamesg
I don't have a link 😦
#
[tantek]
we need that with a voice over, starting with, silos have flattened all forms of expression to uniform blandness, sharing mostly photos of text from other silos ...
#
[tantek]
ending with something inspirational like create whatever you want to create, with your tools, and express yourself on your personal website. IndieWeb

moving the cursor right to left works reasonably well to go through books, other way around not at all. I'm semi-constantly waiting on an animation to finish to read the cover comfortably.
#
[tantek]
capjamesg, if there's enough in the Etherpad for an HWC, someone who attended it can likely write a summary post day-of, when it's still fresh in mind and using the Etherpad as a rough outline
