paotsaqthis is something I could easily look up to have a bigger understanding of how exactly it works, but I wonder if there is a way to independently — or with a more long-term thinking company — set up your domain for a period of 5 years or something. but I suppose you can already do this with namecheap

[tantek]the difference is that you can swap domain providers all over the world, whereas cellphone providers you're likely limited to your country or region
[tantek]this tends to make domain providers more competitive and work harder to earn your trust, since you have more options, and lower switching costs
