[Al_Abut][capjamesg] I cannot begin to express how stoked I would be if you or any other art historian would take a truly critical eye towards documenting the early web.
[Al_Abut]There were a series of books from that era that took that approach and that had a big impact on me, ones like Eye Candy From The Underground. Obviously the specific styles donβt hold up but those kinds of books were so valuable and the authors came across as friendly docents at a vibrant museum. So rare compared to the more tactical and technical stuff.

LoqiIt looks like we don't have a page for "Lesswrong" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "Lesswrong is ____", a sentence describing the term)
[jeremycherfas]Lesswrong is an interesting site, full of effective altruism stuff that I generally skip with occasional pieces that I want to read and that provoke thoughts. I've added individuals from the site to my feed reader.
[morgan]I only skim read the above, think there's a strong nugget of truth about simple design sketch ups and ideas that don't overwhelm people. At least in terms of internet metrics like engagement or people like adopting the whole idea, simple stuff might have better survival characteristics
[morgan]If I link an essay it's like I'm endorsing everything in the essay or need to provide a description and that's more effort than many summon at times
[morgan]Often the enthusiasm or motivation of "hey I'm trying at a thing" like a picture of oneself painting ποΈ or writing can be more captivating than any end product
[morgan]Sometimes an essay is necessary to fully introduce someone to a topic, or in the case of web standards sometimes 20k+ word documents. But if your intimately familiar your gonna understand small esoteric references and jokes and humor and things that invite engagement
[morgan]I didn't word it perfectly but I think I meant like- people might quote selectively something like a text but they are relying on some kind of reference or status of a whole work I guess. Not that anyone does or is expected to read the whole thing
