what is watch?
#
Loqi
A watch is a semi-passive type of post used to publish that you have watched a video — typically movie, TV show, or other video recordings https://indieweb.org/watch

I'm still stunned how hilariously fast the python3 + sanic + whoosh combination for search when compared to the default wordpress search
#
petermolnar
the accuracy is not that good though, apparently searching in urls is tricky with whoosh
#
petermolnar
I'd welcome any tips on how the analyser should be done for this case

http://cutycapt.sourceforge.net/ - another website screenshooting cli tool
#
cweiske
I'm actually using that in phancap
#
petermolnar
I'm still a bit surprised that all these solutions require an x-server
#
petermolnar
I'm not aware of any, real command line capturer
#
cweiske
neither
#
cweiske
petermolnar, I'm using a dummy X server in phancap
#
petermolnar
I know xvfb, but that's still is an xserver :)
#
cweiske
maybe you should look for "framebuffer browser"
#
sknebel
phantomJS is the one headless browser that works without X I think (well, outside text mode options)

switching to dev aaronpk since, JSON
#
tantek
why is "refs" a separate key - is that normally part of XRay?
#
tantek
why not have "location" be a nested h-card?
#
aaronpk
yeah, it's an XRay thing
#
tantek
oho k
#
aaronpk
it's to keep the value types consistent
#
aaronpk
i do it with category too
#
aaronpk
the values in the "category" and "location" arrays will always be strings. if they happen to be URLs, then you can check "refs" to see if XRay found anything out about that URL
#
aaronpk
it makes the consuming code easier cause there's less if(is_string) type stuff
#
tantek
for URLs at least
#
tantek
you can still have nested objects

what is photo story?
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "photo story" yet. Would you like to create it?
#
aaronpk
XRay normalizes most everything to be not nested
#
aaronpk
basically the goal with XRay is to have less varying kinds of values
#

@joelpurra
@oplife Yeah, saw #indieauth earlier; afaik they shut down #openid support. Really need openid for existing sites =(

@joelpurra @oplife https://indieauth.com/ should still be running an OpenID provider. I just used it to sign in to StackOverflow yesterday!

#
tantek
what "existing sites"?
#
aaronpk
stackoverflow is one
#
tantek
and? plural?
#
tantek
sure that's our list - I mean the quote from @joelpurra "existing sites" before he linked to our site

#
tantek
what is AMP?
#
Loqi
Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) is a Google-led project that speeds up a subset of HTML through caching and dependencies on google: https://indieweb.org/AMP
#
loqi.me
edited /AMP (+103) "/* See Also */ new section"

Loqi
ok, I added "https://productforums.google.com/forum/?nomobile=true#!topic/webmasters/8ogdv04Cm-k" to the "See Also" section of /AMP
#
@aaronpk
@joelpurra I like the concept too! My goal with #indieauth is to use domains as identities (like OpenID) but using OAuth 2.0 techniques.
(twitter.com/_/status/818539558568476672)
#
tantek
that AMP criticism is amazing
#
KartikPrabhu
sounds like Google messed up the AMP news UI
#
tantek
yeah it's pretty crappy on mobile web - very slow, sticky, and unresponsive
#
tantek
kinda the opposite of "accelerated"
singpolyma joined the channel
#
aaronpk
the first load is always faster than the original site, but then it's a terrible experience from there on
#
tantek
all the carousel nonsense in google search / google news with the AMP "cards" are super slow / unresponsive
#
tantek
it's as if Google search/news front end devs don't actually know how to write (or perf test?) JS
#
aaronpk
they know how, tthey just all test on top of the line computers
#
tantek
except sales of top of the line computers is not their business model, so that seems counterproductive
#
gRegorLove
Doesn't seem to be an easy way to get the original URL on an AMP page, too.
#
gRegorLove
Address bar remains "google.com/amp..."
#
tantek
I believe that's in one of the other criticisms
#
gRegorLove
Below that I see "amp.slate.com" in this example search, but it's not clickable.
#
tantek
also how fake news looks more legit, by putting up AMP versions that are then served from google.com and then afforded more "authority" / "legitimacy" accordingly
#
tantek
it's a pretty big problem
#
gRegorLove
Yeah, a friend was complaining on Twitter about not being able to get the original URL. Probably for sharing.
#
tantek
it's as if Google only wants you to share the AMP URL hosted at their site, giving google.com traffic
#
KevinMarks
They are now? They were fast originally - did amp get crafted up with silo components?
#
KevinMarks
Of course I'm testing on chrome on an Google phone, so I may be part of the problem

#

no-www is a movement to deprecate use of "www." at the start of URLs as being redundant, unnecessary, and a waste of resources. Site (until 2016): https://web.archive.org/web/20161102173442/http://no-www.org/
