Whilst I am hosting my own photos (and syndicating) I am also toying with doing more twittering outside of twitter - see where it goes.

What is code of conduct?
#
Loqi
IndieWeb code of conduct tl;dr: Be respectful of other people, respectfully ask people to stop if you are bothered, and if you can't resolve an issue contact staff. If you are being a problem, it will be apparent and you'll be asked to leave https://indieweb.org/code-of-conduct

kevinmarks we have a whole separate page for that kind of thing
#
tantek
can you please move it?
#
tantek
the recent Drupal decisions have nothing to do with the IndieWeb code of conduct

#
tantek
one of my hopes was that we could incrementally build the building blocks to for /readers in our sites with the steps in /IndieMark
#
tantek
e.g. even retrieving from someone else's permalinks enough to generate a /reply-context
#
tantek
and from there on up, retrieving enough to display someone else's replies in their entirety ( /comments-display )
#
tantek
perhaps I'm missing something but that seemed to be the the key piece
#
tantek
once you can retrieve and display others' permalinks, then there is the followings management piece I suppose
#
aaronpk
there are two parts to the following pieces
#
tantek
you could even skip explicit following management though, and basically have your /reader do implied follow of everyone you reply to
#
tantek
and then add a /mute button on top of that
#
aaronpk
one is making the request to follow someone from the reader interface, and the other is actually receiving updates from that person
#
tantek
that just "doesn't display" posts from that domain
#
tantek
I'm suggesting skipping "one" by implying it by who you reply to
#
tantek
as a hack
#
tantek
to just get *something* going
#
tantek
instead of worrying about implementing explicit following UI, following lists etc.
#
aaronpk
i think that could work for some people
#
tantek
well you fake it by simply bookmarking someone's site
#
tantek
then your "imply follow" logic adds it
#
tantek
perhaps we need stream discovery from a permalink though
#
aaronpk
beyond just author home page?
#
tantek
and then something to subscribe to a WebSub hub
#
aaronpk
given a post permalink, we already have /authorship which results in the person's home page
#
tantek
aaronpk, yeah, top level domain is a good enough hack to start with for stream discovery
#
aaronpk
bridgy takes that one step further and looks for a rel=feed URL on your home page to find additional feed URLs
#
tantek
then the last bits are 1) retrieving/receving updates from those streams, 2) integrating them into presumably a time order for viewing
#
aaronpk
I link to two special feeds for bridgy, so that it has a better chance of finding all my content
#
aaronpk
https://aaronparecki.com/syndicated <-- every post that has a syndication URL
#
tantek
interesting
#
aaronpk
https://aaronparecki.com/all <-- every post, which sometimes updates a page worth more frequently than bridgy polls
#
aaronpk
as for your #1, WebSub subscriptions enable realtime updates for that stream, and a consumer can fall back to polling
#
aaronpk
#2, sounds like just ordering the discovered posts by published dates
#
tantek
aaronpk - re: #1 right, building that WebSub subscriber seems like the hard part
#
tantek
and then adding the polling fallback
#
tantek
agreed re: #2
#
aaronpk
having done it for Monocle, I agree it's not trivial
#
aaronpk
but I also realized something that can help split the burden for implementing that
#
aaronpk
separating the idea of managing the subscription and parsing the permalink content from the actual display of the data

Regarding my listen posts, I experimented with some some mf2 markup as well. each item is an h-entry with p-summary of “Listened to (Podcast Name, Podcast Number: Episode Name)”, p-name of “(Podcast Name, Episode Number and Name)”, u-photo of the cover art and u-url of the podcast permalink page. The value is the u-url. The next step is I would like to embed an h-card that references the overall podcast info and at some point I’d like
#
[eddie]
(primarily a link to the audio file so I can embed an audio player and eventually be able to use media fragments to cue up the audio player on a “context” area where you can listen to the exact part of the podcast when I have commentary. Any feedback on these thoughts is welcome ?
#
martymcguire[m]
[eddie] looks like some of your comment got cut off.
#
[eddie]
oh, in IRC?
#
martymcguire[m]
yep
#
aaronpk
hm there's something wrong with the slack bridge, seems like long messages aren't being split up right
#
[eddie]
ohhhhh gotcha.
#
martymcguire[m]
" and at some point I’d like " gets cut off
#
martymcguire[m]
and the next line starts "(primarily a link to the audio file..."
#
[eddie]
at some point I’d like to add some context info (primarily a link to the audio file so I can embed an audio player and eventually be able to use media fragments to cue up the audio player on a “context” area where you can listen to the exact part of the podcast when I have commentary. #
martymcguire[m]
anyway, /audio has some examples of marking up audio with mf2
#
[eddie]
That should include everything missing from the last message
#
aaronpk
(it turns out it's surprisingly hard to compensate for max IRC message lengths, since the protocol limits the total payload size which includes metadata like the author nick and such)
#
[eddie]
oh, awesome, I’ll take a peek in that direction, thanks
#
martymcguire[m]
and i am also interested in fun things like media fragments for annotations to make a kind of indieweb version of soundcloud annotations

#
[eddie]
ohhh, so you use an h-cite instead of an h-entry
#
[eddie]
that makes sense
#
tantek
eddie, not sure of the context, but h-entry if its yours, and h-cite to something if its not!
#
tantek
that's the short version
#
[eddie]
 Thanks tantek and martymcguire[m]! h-cite for the podcast reference now, and the indieweb.org/audio link helped clarify: u-url for the original permalink and u-audio for the mp3 file ?

X-Sendfile is a special feature/header with which a web application can instruct the web server in front of it to deliver a specific static file to the user's browser. This can be helpful for things like access control to images.
