morning all; is it just me or is this a weird mf markup on this site? http://www.pandemia.info/2017/07/14/bookmarks-favs-likes-backfilling-years-of-gaps/

[Luca Conti] Bookmarks, favs, likes – backfilling years of gaps
#
Zegnat
You might expect a u-like-of there
#
Zegnat
Is that what you meant? Otherwise it is pretty straight forward
#
petermolnar
there is no e-content
#
petermolnar
I wonder how the php parser gets the content
#
petermolnar
also noticed that many WP sites, which enabled a few indie plugins, are ending up including related, also on, etc. stuff in the content
#
petermolnar
which is a bit annoying
#
petermolnar
I might just include 'entry-content' to be searched for among some others
#
Zegnat
It uses entry-content, which is old mf

Zegnat
It is one example where there is probably some plugin used for the like-of, maybe postkinds or something (ask -wordpress), but the theme itself is still mf1.
#
petermolnar
my problem was that it has an e-summary
#
petermolnar
but that's the quote from me
#
petermolnar
so it was confusing
#
petermolnar
(on other notes: I got 200 lines off my CSS)
#
Zegnat
well, the e-summary is nested on the h-cite, so that’s a completely separate mf object
#
Zegnat
You can’t just look for e-summary and assume that it is for the post
#
petermolnar
I can, of course, but the assumption indeed might be wrong

so indiewebdevs, anyone been through The Odin Project here?
#
petermolnar
what is The Odin Project?
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "The Odin Project" yet. Would you like to create it?
#
Defenestrate
The Odin Project is a free online bootcamp that teaches full stack web dev with Ruby on Rails.
#
Defenestrate
I dedicated 3 months to it late last year
#
Defenestrate
it's one of the best resources for learning web dev ive eer come across
#
petermolnar
RoR is out of my interest to be honest; Python, PHP, bash, C and (due to work) Perl is enough
#
petermolnar
if anything, I'd love to learn Ada
#
Zegnat
I have done client work with RoR once and didn’t like it. Don’t see myself going back to it.
#
Defenestrate
yes i ended up hating RoR, but it still taught me all the fundamentals of webdev in a practical manner
#
Zegnat
Why didn’t Loqi add it to the wiki?
#
Zegnat
The Odin Project is a free online bootcamp that teaches full stack web dev with [[Ruby on Rails]].
#
Zegnat
Hhrrmm.
#
petermolnar
I'd guess Defenestrate has never signed in to the wiki before
#
petermolnar
what is The Odin Project?

Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "The Odin Project" yet. Would you like to create it?
#

no that was my first message ^

#
Zegnat
Still nothing petermolnar.
#
petermolnar
interesting
#
Zegnat
Defenestrate, we are trying to learn our chatbot what the odin project is
#
Zegnat
I’ll just add to the wiki manually
#
Defenestrate
oh right i didnt understand what was going on

Sorry

Hmm, I don’t like how the Odin Project does backend before frontend. But that might be a personal preference, as I started with 100% frontend and watched as PHP includes gained traction
#
petermolnar
I started from the other way
#
petermolnar
so I'm biased to backend first
#
Defenestrate
for me it didnt matter because i just needed a learning structure. some path to adhere to. i found getting started in webdev really overwhelming otherwise. now im much better at self-learning and a lot of that knowledge of learning how to learn came from ToP
#
Zegnat
Defenestrate if you have a blog post about your experience I’d love to read that and link to it on the indieweb wiki :)
#
Defenestrate
unfortunately i don't, but i was planning to write up something at the end of this year.. i should check out this wiki though
#
Zegnat
You definitely should if you :) And join the #indieweb channel if you want to discuss
#
Defenestrate
so what is this channel then?
#
Defenestrate
there's another indieweb chan?
#
petermolnar
there are 4: #indieweb generic discussion for https://indieweb.org #indieweb-dev for development heavy things #indieweb-wordpress for WordPress specific things and #indieweb-chat for offtopic
#

There is just no way I am ever going to get events posts working correctly on my current site :/ Ugh.
#
sknebel
Zegnat: why not?
#
Zegnat
I will have to change my database schema and then change all my views
#
Zegnat
My data storage is ... bad. But I never planned to rewrite it because of my activity feed site work that would replace the entire thing in the future anyway
#
Zegnat
starts randomly running SQL
#
sknebel
ah, ok
#
sknebel
you could probably patch a bunch of exceptions for events in, or even create them as static files for now ;)

Zegnat eons ago I wanted to rewrite my cms, so I spent a hell lot of a time designing a db for it; in the end, I realized, I reinvented the db layout of WordPress, so I started using WordPress :D
#
petermolnar
if I look at the wordpress db today, it's terrible by today's eyes: there should be a db abstraction layer, cascading foreign innodb keys, maybe even some logic in the db
#
petermolnar
but 10 years ago it was reasonable, especially compared drupal 6 (brrr)
