I've been working on my gnu/social laravel clone over the holidays. Making good progress, I came up with this Status factory to generate fake statuses for dev/testing. https://gist.github.com/dansup/614df44762cfd7d258408b274ce3cb0c

is there a more generic term than "timeline" (too specific), or "news feed" (too FB specific) for the stream of posts aggregated from your friends / followings?

what is stream?
#
Loqi
A stream refers to a collection of posts, typically time-ordered, similar to a feed, and often updated in real-time, with updates propagated via a notification-based protocol like WebSub, and published as HTML (h-feed/h-entry) https://indieweb.org/stream

what is nudge
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "nudge" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "nudge is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#
tantek
nudge is a feature of several social sites or applications, and a former feature of [[Twitter]] where sending "nudge username" would send a request to that user to send a current Tweet. [https://www.cnet.com/news/newbies-guide-to-twitter/]

If anyone else has ideas for good micropub actions for h-cards, let me know 😄
#
[eddie]
There will definitely be a “send message” (in reply to homepage)
#
sknebel
[eddie]: I missed the context of the question, what are you building?
#
Zegnat
[eddie], maybe add some of those screenshots to /Indigenous for people to get context quickly?
#
[eddie]
Ohh good idea
#
[eddie]
sknebel, it’s an iOS share extension. When you are on a page with an h-card, h-entry or h-event, it parses the page and provides different micropub actions to send to your server based on what type you are looking at. h-entry and h-event have some basic expected options (like, bookmark, reply, etc)
#
[eddie]
But I’m thinking through what to do when it’s someone’s home page (save their information to your phone’s address book, send a message (reply), eventually follow (via microsub), etc)
#
sknebel
h-event should have "send to calendar" and "rsvp", but I assume that has been obvious
#
sknebel
I wonder if there is something clever to do with their silo profiles, e.g. show them in the matching app?
#
[eddie]
Oh, for some reason send to calendar didn’t appear in my mind! Great!

follow is a common feature (and often UI button) in silo UIs (like Twitter) that adds updates from that profile (typically a person) to the stream shown in an integrated reader, and sometimes creates a follow post either in the follower's stream ("… followed …" or "… is following …") thus visible to their followers, and/or in the notifications of the user being followed ("… followed you") https://indieweb.org/follow

snarfed, so true, found a most ironic example of that yesterday - the ACM Hypertext Conference - their sites are dying
#
tantek
what is ACM Hypertext Conference?
#
Loqi
ACM Hypertext Conference is an annual academic conference on the subject of hypertext and typically the web, where both XFN and XMDP were presented in poster sessions in the mid 2000s, and long ago HTML was submitted but rejected; and their event sites for some years either died or were taken over by squatters (like ht04.org for 2004) https://indieweb.org/ACM_Hypertext_Conference
