what is a multi-rsvp

An RSVP is a reply to an event post that says whether the sender is or is not attending, might attend, or is just interested in the event https://indieweb.org/multi-rsvp

There’s a bunch to unpack in this tweet and thread about /longevity and specifically with regard to /webhosts and whatever dependencies they can break with upgrades https://twitter.com/nickf/status/971893773738196993
#
@nickf
@carywood @meyerweb @johnallsopp @jensimmons @adactio @standardista @zeldman @t @mholzschlag @stubbornella @alistapart @dalepd It’s sad but hey, I didn’t exactly have people lining up to foot the hosting and domain bill. Not to mention no technical coverage for any time the h st updated their tech and the site crashed because of it.

*sounds* like a good argument for static sites/archives

yeah. rocket science, i know. just didn't want to have to think about it, put it off and here's a solution wrapped in a bow.

it's for when i cache remote resources (sites i like/bookmark and incoming mentions)

anyone know if there's an IW consensus on self-hosting at an .onion (over Tor)?
#
AngeloGladding
it has obvious UI/accessibility failures but trivializes hosting from a NAT'd context
#
snarfed
AngeloGladding: a few people here do. https://indieweb.org/Tor

...but most would look at the inaccessibility for most people (ie doesn't work in a stock browser) and say, no thanks
#

a friend is experimenting using Tor to host his personal site on his phone -- loads fast as any Tor site
#
AngeloGladding
if he could use it for sign-in alone that'd be worth it
#
AngeloGladding
but he'd stand to benefit for the other services you all are building
#
snarfed
"fast as any Tor site" 😂
#
snarfed
i do love Tor, but integrating it into the major indieweb services is a pretty big ask

I have a Tor Onion service mirror of my site, but realized that a lot of the site-to-site benefits of IndieWeb are kind of moot unless, like snarfed suggests, other sites and services know how to talk to those onions
#
schmarty
I do like stealth onion services for private sites, but stopped playing with them on my phone when I switched to iOS, which currently has no means of browsing Tor with HidServAuth :/
#
AngeloGladding
in your case you've mirrored your site. technically the person on Tor could just access your site anonymously by its domain name. some minor differences.
#
AngeloGladding
but when you tie your identity solely to an onion you get some interesting consequences
#
AngeloGladding
a forever-host is one, simple localized hosting behind NAT, exclusive anonymity protections
#
AngeloGladding
and my thinking was that if you used IndieAuth and a caching hub you could engage the IW and then turn your phone off and the public wouldn't even notice
#
AngeloGladding
it's a non-traditional approach no doubt. just wanted to confirm there wasn't some Tor functionality already in the wild.
