↩️ I’m still getting into the #indieweb mindset. Replies are fine wherever. I’m using https://puz.fun/@dave (Mastodon/ActivityPub) for short form and http://secretspecial.info for long form. Wish Mastodon supported webmentions...¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I just got a refback from Loqi. Fun

mastodon + webmentions would be nice
#
jacky
tbh there's probably a lazywebdev way to do it

having an app sign in and just scan all of your posts to send webmentions (and maybe incoming replies?)

In my attempts to get micropub working, I notice that clients like Quill get unauthorised / missing bearer token errors. Not when first authenticating (using my Wordpress credentials), but always in next steps. Quill posts fine, micropublish.net doesn't. The issue is I run php as fastcgi, not as mod_php and that makes authorisation headers unavailable to php it seems. Changing htaccess doesn't help thusfar. Any pointers appreciated.
#
[jgmac1106]
You might want to take to WordPress channel... Folks run into micropub auth problems often
#
tonz
will do!
#
Loqi
[Christian Weiske] PHP does not see Authorization header
#
tonz
[cweiske] thanks, I think I checked those but to no avail. The one remaining thing is I can try and check if the codes for those indieweb plugins checks the REDIRECT_ variety as well

snarfed, I see you're following me :)
#
snarfed
swentel; yes!
#
swentel
very very cool
#
swentel
I'll experiment now to see what minimal object we need for posts
#
swentel
and, whether simply just adding 'public' and 'user/x/followers' is enough so that you would see my post on your timeline
#
swentel
that's what interests me the most really
#
swentel
I know posting already hehe
#
snarfed
hmm so are you hoping we'd just deliver to...one instance? which one?
#
swentel
yeah, that's the multi million dollar question indeed :/
#
swentel
I see you're storing followers
#
swentel
so you would basically just get those, and than use the shared inbox per instance probably
#
swentel
makes more sense I guess
#
swentel
and how would someone target say, only syndicate this to mastodon ?
#
swentel
let me reprase
#
swentel
rephrase
#
swentel
Another thing: how would someone syndicate a note to mastodon ? e.g. if pixelfed works, a note doesn't make sense there.
#
swentel
maybe the same like you do with bridgy - links become bridgy/publish/{x} maybe
#
snarfed
hmm maybe!
#
snarfed
this seems broader than just bridgy fed though
#
snarfed
if an AP instance doesn't support some kinds of posts, i'd think it needs to handle that itself, right?
#
snarfed
ie, if pixelfed supports full federation, and lets you follow a mastodon user, it needs to handle this, right?
#
[jgmac1106]
The Mastodon Auto share plugin WP.org sanitizes different post types well
#
swentel
but users might want it ? although I can't tell, as I only syndicate to twitter
#
swentel
maybe users only want some things on site x, and not on y
#
swentel
just thinking out loud
#
swentel
but maybe we should just get posting working first hehe
#
snarfed
swentel: first step would probably be to research to find if any existing AP services allow that
#
snarfed
and if so, how
#
swentel
hmm yeah, but I kept on reasoning, and you're right. If someone follows me on pixelfed once it supports federation
#
swentel
than it doesn't really matter
#
swentel
pixelfed should handle it and decide whether it shows it or not
#
swentel
ok, I will do a post in a few minutes :)
[eddie] joined the channel
#
swentel
ok posted
#
[jgmac1106]
Swentel yes, I choose how I syndicate to Twitter, Mastodon and microblog
#
[jgmac1106]
And how you @mention folks is different for each
#
[jgmac1106]
Rarely do I do all three
#
swentel
snarfed, I see the post in my home timeline, and I didn't even cc my mastodon user
#
swentel
so if it shows up for you, then it would make posting much easier
#
swentel
(then the decision process could potentially become 'find the main instance this account is registered on' and post to the shared inbox there - if that is possible
#
snarfed
swentel: which post of yours?
#
swentel
snarfed, "I will be giving a session at @drupalcampbe about #indieweb ! A gentle 101 intro about the mission, specs and what the #drupal module already supports. Spoiler: a lot!"
#
snarfed
sadly i don't see it

#
swentel
I don't see your account following me either for instance on mastodon.social, I have to go to visit on the other instance

swentel
so those things aren't synced all the time it seems

I got it wrong, kindling are feeds you want to read and sparks are those that help highlight what to read first

Still, I wonder how such a concept would work with the way you are looking at the data!

Nice! It’s still a cool idea to call those kindling and sparks, and it’s still related to using likes (and theoretically any mention) to filter out posts!

What's the right secret sauce for an h-feed to ensure that Aperture doesn't end up with duplicate entries?
#
[cleverdevil]
Is just having a unique id attribute on each h-entry suffice? (Seems like "no.")

"no" seems like a bug

What is last.fm?

Loqi
Last.fm is a silo for tracking music listening (scrobbling) and providing music recommendations https://indieweb.org/last.fm

yeah we just need a #indieweb #microsub client. if that doesn't make sense, look at this https://aaronparecki.com/2018/04/20/46/indieweb-reader-my-new-home-on-the-internet

[sknebel] I am generating an h-feed from my private Instagram timeline that I subscribe to in Aperture.
#
[cleverdevil]
Every item in the feed has an unique "id" attribute, yet I still see dupes appearing in Aperture.
#
[cleverdevil]
This might be a question for [aaronpk]
#
sknebel
Does it have unique "url" or "uid" properties? Those should be enough...
#
sknebel
"id" afaik is not a thing
#
[cleverdevil]
So, its HTML, with each photo being encompassed as a <article class="h-entry" id="unique-id">.
#
sknebel
That's not reflected in Microformats at all
#
sknebel
So I doubt aperture considers it
