@megasoft012 pretty cool you are syndicating openly licensed material http://www.test-net.org/2019/03/27/dweb-identity-for-the-decentralized-web-with-indieauth/ and then profiting on other's work. If they're reposting CC-BY-SA work without the license they're violating it and that's worth pointing out to @ creativecommons (and publicly to @ mozhacks as well)
#
[tantek]
e.g. you can't "claim copyright on all the work" if the original is from CC-BY-SA

https://twitter.com/brucel/status/1110951235933347841 this is an elightening mistake as [tantek] always reminding my to validate my long form writing: https://twitter.com/brucel/status/1110951235933347841
#
@brucel
Validate your HTML. We didn't when we published an article yesterday. It looked fine in all the browsers. But a mis-nested <span><del></span></del> caused this on iPhone's Reeder app (HT @pepelsbey_ ). Not every renderer of HTML is as forgiving as browsers. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/D2rj73sW0AIcE0i.jpg
(twitter.com/_/status/1110951235933347841)
#
[tantek]
That kind of error makes me question the usability of SGML (or XML for that matter) requiring explicit naming in close tags. e.g. if instead of </span> or </del> you could write just </> then you would never have that kind of tag overlap problem
#
[jgmac1106]
eddie looks like no gpx upload in mapbox: GeoJSON, JSON or CSV file here.

[tantek]
designing the markup for "untag" is an interesting case of scope
[kevinmarks] joined the channel
#
[tantek]
just adding an "untag-of" property would "work" but would also imply the possible need to others for other properties / responses.
#
[tantek]
also the name is not necessarily correct, and you may be removing the tag someone else added, thus it's not really an "un-*" action, it's a remove or delete
#
[tantek]
Micropub already has the notion of deleting properties or specific property values, so I'd rather built on that if possible
#
[tantek]
while Micropub usually takes it's syntax from microformats, in this case the point would be to explore the opposite, to figure out the mf2 equivalent for the Micropub remove/"delete" operation: https://micropub.net/draft/#remove
#
@schnarfed
↩️ /me reluctantly subscribes to this thread for https://brid.gy/. i haven't yet fully ramped up on articles 11/13, and it's hosted in the US, and non-commercial...but i assume i'll still need to eventually. (i did for GDPR: https://brid.gy/about#gdpr)
(twitter.com/_/status/1110964918390382592)
#
[tantek]
one way to provide equivalent markup for the Micropub semantic could be a "delete-of" property, the links to a URL, and then the other properties in the h-entry e.g. category could determine which property values to remove
#
[tantek]
should also work for requesting removal of person-tags
#
[tantek]
perhaps even a particular u-photo from a post
#
[tantek]
both of those latter scenarios would be good examples of posts you would not put into any feeds, their sole purpose is a permalink from which to send a webmention
#
[tantek]
yet you may want to still include in a feed, delete-of posts for removing say GitHub labels

what are timezones
#
Loqi
Timezones are names used to highlight regions on the globe that are used to define a uniform time for society's use (legal, finance, social) https://indieweb.org/timezones
#
Loqi
ok, I added "https://codeblog.jonskeet.uk/2019/03/27/storing-utc-is-not-a-silver-bullet/" to the "See Also" section of /timezone https://indieweb.org/wiki/index.php?diff=58653&oldid=56210
#
[tantek]
this is so good: "Principle of preserving supplied data"
#
[tantek]
directly applicable to all indieweb UX, publishing etc.
#
aaronpk
"only store UTC" is bad advice. that's not enough information to reconstruct a date to display
#
aaronpk
i store the authored date in the local time in my canonical storage (files), and index UTC *plus* the offset in the database for easier sorting/filtering
#
aaronpk
if you don't store the offset of the authored date, then you can't create date permalinks that reflect the date the post was authored
#
[tantek]
exactly. and that blog post does a *very* thorough job of walking folks through that.

aaronpk

I need to build a test site for New Haven just in case
#

aaronpk, what haven't I built into Indieauth?
#
[tantek]
aaronpk, I'm curious what you think from a high level design perspective of pursuing a Micropub-parallel markup style for things like requesting adding (or removing!) tags, people, location from (other people's) existing posts: https://indieweb.org/edit#add_remove_properties_on_other_posts
#
[tantek]
I was trying to solve the markup for /untag posts and eventually realized it's just one special case of posts to add/remove properties in general, so I tried to document a few approaches to consider (including I think your proposal/example of how to show an update to a photo of your h-card)
