[jgmac1106] Kisik21 try searching for "chess" on the wiki, e.g. https://indieweb.org/note#Why_Preserve_Whitespace — it's been there for a while 🙂

[snarfed]1: getting 500 on rediscovering a Mastodon post. Are you working on Bridgy or did I hit a bug?
KartikPrabhu joined the channel
#
beko[m]
well, I assume it's work in progress. Seems anything related to discover is affected.
#
beko[m]
Interesting. It did rediscover tho. Got some comments and in fact the very first comments via IPv6 ever 😎

Should the Micropub `q=config` endpoint require Authentication? The examples in the spec have it specified, but I can't see anything in there that should require authentication
#
swentel
I guess it's good practice
#
GWG_
Mine does, I believe
#
myfreeweb
i always thought of micropub-as-a-whole as requiring authentication, and parameters like that only influencing authorization (e.g. create/update/delete permissions)

That's plenty of awesome improvements! swentel++

swentel has 16 karma in this channel over the last year (33 in all channels)
#
swentel
should add indigenous too then :)
#
[tantek]
yes definitely!
#
swentel
hmm, let me link that

I also pushed a PR yesterday to fix a Known plugin but didn't know if it was a gift until the commit is accepted
#
[tantek]
[jgmac1106] presumably your PR is reflected in the fork of the plugin on your own GitHub account, so that arguably counts as "shipping", and publicizes it helps make more IndieWeb community members aware of it so they can maybe even test your fork and help approve the PR to upstream

Should I remove rel-syndication links in favor of u-syndication? I believe I currently publish both on the same links.
#
[tantek]
what consumes rel-syndication
#
GWG_
I think a lot of things still do as a fallback for u-syndication
#
jamietanna[m]
Thanks folks, I've left my config endpoint public for now, but will close it down if I start to put anything in there that shouldn't really be public

sorry for the trouble, beko! should be fixed now

[snarfed]: How would I figure out by domain what url Bridgy is bridging to?
#
GWG_
So I have example.com and I want to know what Bridgy accounts it is linked to
#
[snarfed]
GWG_: bridgy lets you use https://brid.gy/twitter/[DOMAIN] as a shortcut to a user page. so try that with each silo
#
aaronpk
Whoa bridgy just found a few Instagram likes on an old post
#
aaronpk
Like months old
#
beko
[snarfed]: np, just wondered if I should report it

Snarfed I seem to be getting 500s from brid.gy when syndicating https://www.jvt.me/mf2/2019/12/qasek/ any idea what's going wrong?

snarfed, would that explain a longer than expected request time (or failure to return) from calls to Bridgy Publish recently? (e.g. last night Bridgy Publish to Twitter and Flickr both seemed to take a lot longer than usual)
#
marinin[m]
what is VK
#
Loqi
VK is a Russian Facebook clone with roughly 100M users and growing https://indieweb.org/VK
#
marinin[m]
wow, that article is something.
#
aaronpk
part of me wants to spend a day going through all the pages on the wiki and flagging/removing ones that have no indieweb relevance
#
marinin[m]
VK has relevance, but the framing seems a little problematic to me.
#
marinin[m]
Its relevance being a silo that a lot of people in Russia would have to export content somehow. :)
#
aaronpk
sure I mean the articles specifically
#
aaronpk
right now that article does not say why it's relevant to the indieweb, and therefore shouldn't be on the wiki
#
aaronpk
so we should either: remove it, or describe how the subject relates to the indieweb
#
marinin[m]
I'd try to expand it, I want one of the articles of '24 days of IndieWeb' to be about 'here is how I exported my content from a silo, and boom — put it on my website, step by step'
#
marinin[m]
So the silo in question could be VK, and I'd document my hurdles along the way
#
aaronpk
that'd be great
#
[tantek]
aaronpk, rather than taking on that burden yourself ("part of me wants to spend a day"), consider describing that as a goal / desired outcome on /wikify that others can help make happen, perhaps link to pages by creation date, oldest first to give folks a list to start going down, and encourage definition expansion (many old ones need it) instead of deletion (worth asking in meta about)
#
aaronpk
turns out mediawiki has a bunch of tools to help with this already! I described them here: https://indieweb.org/wikifying#Finding_pages_that_need_improvement
