↩️ That use case sounds very like the microsub model - if you are modernising, consider adopting this - you can likely avoid having to write some parts of it at all https://indieweb.org/Microsub

jamietanna[m] I think you've got a stray p-name on your posts, they're showing up as blog posts instead of notes, for example https://events.indieweb.org/2020/02/homebrew-website-club-nottingham-8IgcYeAQhIKX
#
jamietanna[m]
Aaronpk thanks - I had seen that before but forgotten to ask. So is it that I need to make sure I only have a `p-name` if it's a blog post, as per post-type-discovery?
simons, flex14, [Rose], [fluffy], [LewisCowles], pncl and jansauer joined the channel
#
aaronpk
jamietanna[m]: yeah the only thing that should have p-name is a blog post with a title, otherwise you can just leave it out
#
aaronpk
(And you can re-send the webmentions to the event page manually and it'll update them)

Events have the name/summary/content thing (possibly description for content if older)

Given a lot of the confusion around which attributes are needed on which post types, is there a wiki page that actually spells out which post types have which mf2 attributes? And would it be worth maybe encouraging the use of an explicit post type attribute which would disambiguate if available?
#
[fluffy]
Like I’m constantly getting tripped up by these things
simons joined the channel
#
[fluffy]
for example with the difference between an image/photo post, and a text post that happens to embed images/photos
#
[jgmac1106]
fluffy very few are agreed upon for more recent experimentation mark up examples are given but not a suggested
#
[jgmac1106]
In your example above I put the u-photo outside e-content and if it is a photo in text it doesn't need anything
#
[jgmac1106]
People mess up u-photo all the time including me
#
[KevinMarks]
There are pages on the microformats wiki for each
#
[fluffy]
Yeah I know about that stuff, but it’d be nice to have a table that has, like, “post type” “contains this” “does not contain this” or something
#
[jgmac1106]
Those first group on that page are agreed to, everything else experimental
#
[fluffy]
like a summary of allowed/disallowed attributes or whatever
#
[KevinMarks]
For h-entry there's a decision tree algorithm
[snarfed] joined the channel
#
[snarfed]
[fluffy] you've seen https://indieweb.org/post-type-discovery , right? not a direct answer, but that's the key the authority on this
#
[fluffy]
I have not seen that
#
[fluffy]
decision trees are useful I guess
#
[snarfed]
eh for implementors
#
[snarfed]
otherwise most of the individual post type pages on the wiki usually say near the top which mf2 attrs are key. eg https://indieweb.org/reply#Post_a_reply has 'add class="u-in-reply-to"'
#
[jgmac1106]
So if you click on any post type in the first group you will see a how to.. But not in the second or third group

[[schmarty]] [chrisaldrich] there was a smallish conversation about the not-it emoji thing this weekend and the "not it!" tendency in general.

or some other implementeation

(also something that would translate across services for syndication, that's complicate)
#
[Rose]
If you use the OS ones they're Unicode so should work on all platforms.
#
gRegorLove
was definitely kidding about not-it posts :)
#
sknebel
"should" very much being the operative word there :D
#
sknebel
but I'd agree, unless you have good reasons otherwise just put emoji in your HTML and let the browser figure it out
#
gRegorLove
If it's mysql driven, watch out for column character encoding. Need utf8mb4 to store the full set of emojis.
#
gRegorLove
mysql's utf8 encoding only supports 1-3 byte characters
