Webmentions really shines when you can share a blog post here, have people reply here, but the tweets get sucked into the original blog post. I run my own webmentions server which embeds mentions, the Twitter connection is run by @schnarfed’s http://Brid.gy

↩️ I'm enamored of @aaronpk's Monocle reader. I subscribe to almost anything, read it w/o interfering algorithms, & reply to posts directly in the reader, which uses Micropub to post those to my site that sends Webmentions to those sites in turn. [more] https://boffosocko.com/2020/02/25/55768083/

I am working on a bookmark/citation UI so I might be able to own my bookmarks
#
GWG
Trying to figure out the starting properties
#
GWG
URL, summary, categories, author...
#
[KevinMarks]
if you want some historic work to look at, theres http://microformats.org/wiki/xfolk (which predates the full microformats process)
#
Loqi
xFolk RC1
#
GWG
[KevinMarks]: I will start with a few and see what happens.
#
GWG
The difference I am working through is that a bookmark post is going to be different, even though I will likely store the rich content inside this new structure
#
GWG
A bookmark post is for sharing, these citations are more a private matter

↩️ For book start/finish posts I’m using IndieBookClub. For reviews, I’m just posting to my blog. Hopefully http://Brid.gy supports Goodreads syndication soon (and if not I’ll write that code myself)! Ravelry support would be amazing! #indieweb (https://b-ark.ca/wQcI2U)

As a callback to discussion from main channel, granted it is native comments but look at identity choices for leaving comments. Wonder if there are webmention equals

i really need an "import event" option in Quill and Meetable
#
aaronpk
i have too many places i need to post the same event now
#
GWG
aaronpk: Have you considered cloning yourself?
#
aaronpk
i suppose that would be another solution

Has anyone automated syncing their blogroll/following list with their microsub server? Maintaining both at the same time seems like a DRY violation, as well as bad UX.

#
jacky
also yeah re: PR
#
jacky
like if you had a 'description' of what the feature set for that would look like
#
sknebel
Since it was requested a few times, found time today to write up a request flow example for AutoAuth:

yea see that's the hard part. the code is easy.

#

this is going to make 2020 indieweb interesting :)
#
GWG
How so?
#
jacky
with autoauth, doing protected posts is a _little_ easier (in my head)
#
jacky
like I had an idea for an impl that just allowed people in my addressbook in koype to view stuff
#
jacky
I want more granuality than that but this gives it a good start
#
GWG
jacky: I have a lot to do before getting there.
#
jacky
random: if I was showing a feed of recevied webmentions, would that be something like a h-feed with h-cite's in them?
#
jacky
#
jacky
I think it'd be just parsing the 'source' of the webmention as it came in
#
jacky
what is h-cite
#
Loqi
h-cite is the microformats2 vocabulary for marking up citations and references on web sites https://indieweb.org/h-cite
#
jacky
hmm yeah that's an overload
#
jacky
nvm then
#
KartikPrabhu
jacky: would someone else consume the feed of webmentions received by you?
#
jacky
no (I see where that's going to) but I'd want to use it in a reader to represent my 'notifications'
#
jacky
there's also another use-case I want - to read said webmentions for another site from a reader
#
KartikPrabhu
aah! so you wold consume it but in a third-party reader
#
jacky
example is me changing https://black.af to be more IndieWeb and reading its feed of incoming mentions
#
jacky
KartikPrabhu: precisely!
jjuran joined the channel
#
KartikPrabhu
i suppose that is a good use-case

it's a bit of overkill in a way but I want to also make all of my h-apps be able to receive mentions (only on the homepage) so I can then see when people mention them

Anyone happen to know if there's a "standard" way of using Oauth2 for git authentication? aaronpk ?
#
aaronpk
like instead of ssh?
gRegorLove joined the channel
#
jacky
sknebel: we _kinda_ do this by using only a token in place of the password
#
jacky
something like `git://git:$TOKEN@git.host:repo/path/in/question.git`
#
aaronpk
yeah oauth would be the process to get that token
#
jacky
this is backed by https://git-scm.com/docs/git-credential (for some plumbing details)
#
jacky
'backed'
#
jacky
what is read
#
Loqi
To read or reading is the act of viewing and interpreting posts or other documents; on the IndieWeb, a read post expresses that something has been read, like a book or section thereof https://indieweb.org/read
#
jacky
wonders if only the second half is necessary tbh
#
jacky
what is a read post

Loqi

#

yeah imo only the second half

which makes prununciation a pain bc English a PITA is it a to read post or i have read post....and which do yous say /ri:d/ or /red/
#
jacky
fair - that granuality is needed (and I think it's handled by the `p-read-status` of a book - which, I think, should be arbitrary unlike `p-rsvp`)
#
sknebel
aaronpk jacky: sorry, wasn't clear, I was thinking for the HTTPS transport
#
sknebel
where afaik Basic Auth is the most common
#
sknebel
but you could do HTTP Authorization header with a token too
#
sknebel
and was curious if I had missed something
#
jacky
I mean there's all of these options https://git-scm.com/docs/git-remote-helpers
#
jacky
but that's like consuming side
#
aaronpk
Yea GitHub does that now
#
aaronpk
pretty sure they completely dropped basic auth a while ago
#
sknebel
for their apps?
#
aaronpk
for anything that uses git via https
#
aaronpk
ah i didn't realize it was connected to 2fa
#
aaronpk
or enterprise SSO
#
aaronpk
that makes sense tho
#
sknebel
yeah. wonder if app-requested tokens work too if they have the right scope, or if apps need to use the API to access repos
#
aaronpk
pretty sure they use http basic auth to pass the token because of how much existing tooling there is that assumes that

I saw https://isomorphic-git.org/docs/en/quickstart.html earlier, which is a JS git library that also works client-side, which made me a) wonder about how to give a random webapp git credentials in a safer way and b) if indieauth makes sense for git in any way

↩️ Using the Webmention and the Semantic Linkbacks plugins you can post events to your #WordPress site and others can RSVP from their sites to notify you.
