Would anyone have a clue why my u-photo is not getting parsed? ๐Ÿ˜ญ ๐Ÿ˜ญ
#
Loqi
Ru Singh
#
hirusi[m]
Strange cause I don't see it on IndieWeb Webring or IndieWebify.me
#
[chrisaldrich]
unmung.com picks it up too...
#
hirusi[m]
It does...
#
[chrisaldrich]
I would say that sometimes there are bugs in indiewebify.me, but it seems to work for a few other examples at the moment....
#
[chrisaldrich]
and indiewebify.me even picks it up as the representative h-card
#
[chrisaldrich]
caching perhaps???
#
hirusi[m]
I've tried to refresh each one a few times. It just hasn't ever picked it up for me... not now and not a few months ago :(

[chrisaldrich]
And it looks like it's finding your photo for your articles on the next step.
#
[chrisaldrich]
what is indiewebify.me?
#
Loqi
Indiewebify.me is a service that checks how indieweb-compatible your site is and reports back its results https://indieweb.org/Indiewebify.me
#
hirusi[m]
oh it is? that's doubly strange!
#
hirusi[m]
I have two different files for h-cards on my home page and h-cards anywhere else... the one on an article is a super minimal h-card since it's hidden anyway.
#
hirusi[m]
it might be that some of these parsers don't like the nesting i've done on the home page h-card
#
[chrisaldrich]
I don't see any recent issues on the github repo for indiewebify that might indicate issues....
#
[chrisaldrich]
What is h-card?
#
Loqi
h-card is the microformats2 vocabulary for marking up people, organizations, and venues on web sites https://indieweb.org/h-card
#
hirusi[m]
Whereas on home page it's nested 2-3 levels down
#
hirusi[m]
i.e. in the source HTML
#
hirusi[m]
Let me try adding a hidden image and see what happens
#
hirusi[m]
Directly one level down and it works
#
hirusi[m]
Since it's the same image, I guess I can keep this HTML though I wonder where to open an issue
#
[chrisaldrich]
you can try here: https://github.com/indieweb/indiewebify-me which linked in the indiewebify.me definition above (for future reference)
#
Loqi
[indieweb] indiewebify-me: Tools to help you get the best out of your indieweb site
#
[chrisaldrich]
the other oddity I notice is that indiewebify.me finds an email too and pin13 doesn't
#
hirusi[m]
Webring also picks it up now
#
hirusi[m]
I'l file an issue and see where it goes
#
[chrisaldrich]
hirusi[m]++ for finding an apparent edge case
#
Loqi
hirusi[m] has 1 karma over the last year
#
hirusi[m]
Woo, first karma. ๐Ÿ™‚
#
[chrisaldrich]
Wait?! What? You've been building so much stuff over the past several weeks you should have 12 or more by now!
#
[chrisaldrich]
What is karma?
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "karma" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "karma is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#
hirusi[m]
Haha, I suppose I usually come here asking for help, so... ๐Ÿ˜œ
#
hirusi[m]
https://github.com/indieweb/indiewebify-me/issues/90 - if anyone would like to follow
#
Loqi
[hirusi] #90 "Check your homepage h-card" doesn't pick up u-photo unless it's nested directly under the h-card tag
#
hirusi[m]
I'll open this on webring now as well
#
[chrisaldrich]
hirusi[m]++ for asking for help
#
[chrisaldrich]
alright... time to hit the hay... goodnight all.
#
hirusi[m]
haha! well, good night!

!tell @hirusi[m] have you updated anything on your end? Because when I go to the link you provided for indiewebify.me (https://indiewebify.me/validate-h-card/?url=https%3A%2F%2Frusingh.com%2F) it shows your photo fine ๐Ÿ™‚
#
hirusi[m]
Yes I have. I have "corrected" and added two u-photos, one that is displayed, and a hidden one purely for better parser compatibility :)
#
[Murray]
cool, congrats on finding a solution ๐Ÿ™‚ really loving the design of your website by the way, it looks great!

ugh i really need to speed up my blog post pages
#
aaronpk
when they have a lot of likes it's taking a couple seconds to load
#
aaronpk
i must be doing something inside of a loop
#
[tantek]
what is performance?
#
Loqi
Performance typically refers to the speed, responsiveness, and initial load of a website https://indieweb.org/performance
#
[tantek]
aaronpk, will be interested to see which tools & techniques you use to investigate and improve the performance!
#
aaronpk
fortunately/unfortunately it's all backend performance issues
#
[tantek]
that's still very useful to understand. I'm in the same boat, I need to speed up my home page and I'm pretty sure it's (nearly) all backend issues too. the biggest frontend cost is photo image size right now (for me)

Just asked [aaronpk]: are there any good open-source IndieWeb projects looking for support? Iโ€™m a beginner to open-source but I have a free weekend and working on the IndieWeb seems like a good way to pass the time.

it might not like that its in a feed - or its currently having problems, since it shouldn't give 500 for a post it doesnt like
#
hirusi[m]
um... i think i did get my markup wrong...
#
[James_Gallaghe]
!tell GWG Iโ€™m not really sure just yet. Iโ€™d just like to see a sampling of the projects out there to which I could contribute. I work best in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Python.
#
Loqi
Ok, I'll tell them that when I see them next
#
GWG
[James_Gallaghe]: There are a lot of people with different projects...hard to advise
#
GWG
Bridgy, for example, if you like bridging things to microformats and webmentions, is written in Python
#
GWG
There is a Python microformats parser
#
GWG
Hmm...
#
GWG
Sorry, I am a PHP person
#
[James_Gallaghe]
Interesting. Iโ€™ll need to take a look at both!
#
[James_Gallaghe]
I see a few good issues on the Python microformats parser GitHub. Iโ€™ll read through the docs in the morning.
#
hirusi[m]
still a 500... i guess I'll tackle this later.

does anyone have a good prefers reduced motion js detector? For no JS a lot of my more active transitions are less annoying (only focus states and one throbbing button).
#
[LewisCowles]
The thing is that some JS elements type-in. I provide html for non-JS users, but I'm wondering if there is a good way to detect and bypass typing text animations.
