I have a feeling a few folks here may have opinions / R&D they may want to contribute to this workshop (especially those of you pursuing a smart home of a sort in a very DIY way, aaronpk, GWG) https://www.w3.org/2021/06/smartcities-workshop/ (open to the public, no admission fee) 2021-06-25

jacky
thinking about having a self hosted IndieAuth server that one could just "start and run"
#
jacky
eh I think I have the idea out but I want to avoid making too much of a UI but still allow for some setup for out of band / authenticator-esque flows
#
aaronpk
do it!
#
jacky
I'm 37% of the way there (doing it again with PKCE isn't hard _at all_ tbh)
#
jacky
the UI is the part I'm flip floppy aobut

like I don't want to have to design or make a consent screen, I kind of want to delegate that to another service of sorts
#
jacky
I don't know if that sounds weird
#
jacky
but like whenever a auth request comes in, it could push something somewhere and inform it that a new request is here
#
jacky
I can see that working for a phone or device that occasionally poll the wrapping service to inform of the request
#
jacky
and once it's approved, it uses some info from the underlying service to confirm it and then show it to the page

my implementation doesn't have any ui, all the info is in the notification sent to pushover that I can allow/deny
#
vilhalmer
at the moment the request just hangs in the browser until I do so
#
vilhalmer
I want to make that more robust eventually but it works well enough
#
vilhalmer
maybe with a simple meta refresh or something

this is really frustrating, php-fpm keeps failing with "Resource temporarily unavailable" errors and i can't figure out why

that's probably _exactly_ what I want and will end up doing, vilhalmer

pushover obviously isn't perfect from a security standpoint, I actually make the callback via a pre-shared key in an ios shortcut that the notification calls via the app url
#
vilhalmer
pure pushover wouldn't be the end of the world though assuming you trust them
#
vilhalmer
key is too strong, token is more accurate
