Hi all, looking at baseline CSS setups for my new site, like VanillaCSS and NewCSS. Are there others I should consider?

I was going to say shoelace v1, but it seems to have been expunged
#
[KevinMarks]
it's pretty good at giving you a modern bootstrapesque look for semantic html
#
[KevinMarks]
ignore the grid system and use CSS grid instead
#
HarryCoburn[m]
I'll take a look at it, thanks!

@ladyaeva
so my wife and i have two cats, and because the cats are prolific content creators, two cat boxes. it just occurred to me that the cats' box selection habits very elegantly model a common problem in most federated social media platforms: load balancing

now we find out how fast i go through my $200 of free credits
#
[jamesg483]
Oh! How is their pricing looking?
#
aaronpk
i can't tell
#
aaronpk
looks like $5 per 1000 API calls https://foursquare.com/products/pricing/
#
[snarfed]
whoa. that seems expensive
#
aaronpk
maybe not for all API calls? i can't tell
#
aaronpk
the checkin API isn't listed on the pricing page
#
aaronpk
it's listing things like search and venue info
#
aaronpk
looks like i'm currently using about 1000 api calls per day, growing slowly, so we'll see what happens
#
[snarfed]
:crossed_fingers:
#
[snarfed]
as a data point, Bridgy averages ~1qps of Twitter API calls alone, so $5 cpm there would put it at...$430/day

Has anyone used Perl for file IO work?

aaronpk, [snarfed], you both offer these great services for us to use. And additionally the code via github, so everyone can install the services for themselves. Before your costs get so high that you have to think about a shutdown, you could also treat this like WordPress .com vs .org. -I don't know how others feel about this, it would be worth it to me.

just a basic thought about this....
