[fluffy] (from #indieweb-chat) re https://beesbuzz.biz/blog/chatter/1556-Happy-30th-birthday-HAL , hah, yes! Bridgy Fed obediently sent your div + iframe HTML to Mastodon as a post, but it looks like Mastodon sanitized it down to nothing
#
[fluffy]
yeah, and the lack of a title didn’t help
#
[fluffy]
but that’s also mastodon for you
#
[snarfed]
that's one place where Bridgy non-Fed's Mastodon experience is better. if you posted it as a u-video instead, Bridgy non-Fed would publish that to Mastodon as a proper attachment
#
[snarfed]
I could look into making Bridgy Fed do that too
#
[fluffy]
when I post a video I just copy youtube’s embed code and I don’t want to have to remember to add more microformats to that
#
[fluffy]
someday I’ll make a more generic video/audio/etc. embed for Publ though
#
[fluffy]
I experimented with that a bit for novembeat.com and it was pretty easy to do, but adding it to Publ’s native imageset stuff is more annoying
#
[fluffy]
https://novembeat.com/submit has a little “link to your URL” field and when you fill that out it fetches the opengraph, and the actual submission thing embeds that as HTML direct into the Markdown

↩️ I had a play with IndieAuth, the more recent implementation of that same idea, a while ago. Neat, but not much adoption either, sadly https://simonwillison.net/2020/Nov/18/indieauth/

↩️ Yeah, IndieAuth is good. Was looking at an auth tool that allowed OpenID login and just had a "oh shit, do we even have any OpenIDs still working?" moment.

↩️ I use IndieAuth for most of my personal website tools. I love being able to sign in with a domain name. I'm excited by the prospect of distributed verification that uses your domain name / a URL as your identifier.

↩️ Just things for me right now. A feed reader, Micropub client for posting to my site, webmention receiver, and one or two other things. I'm hoping to bring IndieAuth functions into a Python library soon. https://github.com/capjamesg/indieweb-utils

↩️ (The above library is a WIP and my first-ever collaborative project. I still have a few things I'd like to do with the IndieAuth functions.)

I read https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-nottingham-avoiding-internet-centralization/ (this January 2022 update) and it's quite good and has a bunch of new stuff.

[tantek]
I highly recommend it to anyone who works on any standards, or has to argue with people working on standards 🙂

Thank you for reading it [tantek]!

I’ll have to give it a read. It caught my eye but I only glanced.
