prologicWell I've been highly motivated lately by the fact my young children are gaining interest in this space (messaging Mum/Dad, which will eventually be messaging their friends), so I decided to do something about it
[aciccarello]One thing I was thinking about yesterday with expiring content. Do people tend to completely hide the content or just unlist it so it doesn't show up in feeds?
[tantek]e.g. so that if someone reloads the page, had it in a tab etc., then the expiring content would be removed (which could be only *part* of a post)
LoqiExpiring content is content that is only temporarily (ephemerally) relevant, and also part of a larger post, that can and should be (preferably automatically) removed once a particular datetime has passed (the expiration date) https://indieweb.org/expiring_post
[aciccarello]I'm wondering if anyone supports both kinds of expiration. One where you don't want to highlight the content in the feed. The other where you want it to be in-accessible.
jackymy eventual implementation is going to be only the former, the latter requires some unguessable URL stuff (the way I'd want to do it) and I don't want to do that just yet
[snarfed]nice! ...sadly not sure what Google's announcement amounts to though. $3M over 5y equates to...a few employees' headcount or so, ongoing, and the policy principles seem very vague and high level. π€·
[tantek][snarfed] that was my impression also. perhaps one of those blog posts that's focused on nudging stuff internally by making a public statement.
