That's http://McMaster.com I think you are thinking of ! [tantek]
#
[tantek]
is it? I tried to search chats for where someone (you?) mentioned jQuery and ASP and couldn't find them
#
[morganm]
Unless there's another fast website or that type around heh
#
[morganm]
I think it's what you are looking for
#
[tantek]
Sounds right / close enough. Thanks!
#
[tantek]
Wondering if that's worth capturing on the performance page
#
[tantek]
what is performance
#
Loqi
Performance typically refers to the speed, responsiveness, and initial load of a website; performance may also refer to the post type, performance https://indieweb.org/performance
#
[morganm]
There's a lot of discussion about it, and also some web performance critiques, but I think it's a fascinating case study
#
[morganm]
The company has been on the web since the beginning basically
#
[morganm]
700k something products
#
[morganm]
Extremely minimalist style design , uses a design system
#
[morganm]
So with some caveats I think it's worth featuring
#
[tantek]
I feel like if we all used similar techniques on our indie web site then all our sites would easily be as fast or faster and scale to 1000s of hits per hour etc.
#
[tantek]
web sites*
#
[Joe_Crawford]
That video’s been mentioned in a HWC and in the most recent FrESH as well.
#
[morganm]
There are definite critiques to be made of the website. It logs lots of requests. There are flags and errors in the console. But its the evolution of a website thats been in operation in the real world for a while, they would need lots of content authors not just devs for all the inhouse content and images
#
[morganm]
It effectively, unambiguously uses some performance techniques I would reccomend lots of people use like preloading and prefetching
#
[morganm]
It talks about critical CSS, I dont reccomend most people do this its a rare case, but maybe it fits here
#
[morganm]
Pretty good article about Critical CSS not always being good for everyone https://csswizardry.com/2022/09/critical-css-not-so-fast/
#
[tantek]
TIL: Critical CSS, and this is one of the dumbest web dev techniques I've seen in a while. Totally unnecessary complexity for like 99% of websites. WTF

that's a lot of IRC logs aaronpk (from #indieweb). curious what format — is that plain text like CSV/TSV or XML or something else?
#
[morganm]
but what if McMaster is one of the 1% , that's the question hehe
#
[morganm]
Seriously though I am in agreement about the technique
#
[morganm]
It seems like a good idea if you don't really know the enormous work that goes into making things optimized in the web platform already and that article points out the multiple flaws in that idea
#
[tantek]
Best answer is to make our personal sites as fast as possible in stark contrast to the slow & fragile JS-web

Hope to launch http://blog.libre.fm today 🙂

[mattl]++ went to subscribe to a feed via bookmarklet and none found -- WordPress convention would have been `/feed/` - what's the feed url and here's small suggestion to add the autodiscovery link tag for it.

Ghost and 11ty and omg.lol?
#
gRegor
Different sections of the site, or a complex stack? Heh
#
[mattl]
no ghost should be public, it's all static via 11ty.

actually you might find an image being loaded from ghost and I want to fix that

[preview] [Dr. Matt Lee] Attended my first Front End study hall today, hosted by Joe. I’m still pretty tired from XOXO but it was good to see so many people turn up. I look forward to the next one.

What is Omnivore?
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "Omnivore" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "Omnivore is ____", a sentence describing the term)

[KevinMarks] if you want to define it to help capture all the "How to export" stuff

[mattl], Hooking up libre.fm to web-scrobbler, not sure if this is on your end of that extension, but it says "Unknown client" on the libre authorization page
#
gRegor
But, approved it and looks like it's working!
#
gRegor
*your end or that extension
#
[mattl]
yeah, they need to use a client code and aren't yet.
