[social] I had hope for Portable Contacts, but LinkedIn made an utter mess of my contacts. I keep a lot of info in contacts, but also have friends who keep their private lives very quiet do access to my contacts is going to nearly always get a no response. Services like Ev Williams’ Mozi is a non-starter as it wants access to my contacts.

[social] The Portable Contact model as it was continually attempted really seemed to be a the wrong way around.

[social] I really liked h-card. If treated like RSS to get updates when it changes, that would be great (and then allow for the recipient of the updated card sort out how they want to deal with it.

[social] I still have my bookmarks in my browsers for parsing h-cards and turning them into vcards (similar for h-cal). I’ve had them for dog years and keep thinking I may remove them.

[0x3b0b] I think there's a strong chance (though certainly not a guarantee) that if I hadn't liked Microblogpub enough to stick with it, I've have ended up running myself a Friendica.

[social] I’ve not used Friendica, but had some chats with Fediverse folks about it when a couple years ago and there was some hope and interest in it.

[social] Many times I’ve come close to marking up my links page with FOAF-type rel= attributes, but that then becomes too easy to social engineer.

[social] I was pulled into the middle of someone using having lunch with me and over stating it to claim we were deep friends and then use that to extort others and try to con others. I only met him for lunch because he was new to town and he was dating a good friend who wanted to find him people in town to interact with.
