[snarfed] I sent a webmention to brid.gy fed yesterday (my account: https://fed.brid.gy/web/jamesg.blog). A link was posted to bsky but nothing was sent over AP.
#
capjamesg
I am sending mentions via https://jamesg.blog/syndicated, which will offer a reduced version of my feed that includes the content I want to syndicate over to Bsky/AP.
#
capjamesg
Maybe there is a mistake in my microformats markup?

capjamesg I'm seeing posts on the fediverse now! I'm guessing your first one was before you had any fediverse followers: https://fed.brid.gy/docs#:~:text=if%20you're%20looking

Sorry for asking so many questions that the docs answer 😭
#
[snarfed]
hah np! it's a lot

Re: "If you're on the fediverse, your server might be blocking or limiting Bridgy Fed. Check your server's About page to see if bsky.brid.gy or brid.gy are in the Moderated servers section. If they are, you can ask your server admin to reconsider, and include a link to this page for more details. "
#
capjamesg
Does that apply if I am using a custom domain?
#
[snarfed]
you're on the web, not the fediverse 😁
#
[snarfed]
(sorry, language around bridging can be confusing!)
#
capjamesg
I love being on the web 😄
#
capjamesg
One more question: Do my links need to have the fed.brid.gy/r/ prefix?
#
capjamesg
Also interesting that Discord didn't autolink that domain.
#
capjamesg
Oh, and one more: /syndicated/ is a feed of posts, each with a link to bridgy. I sent a webmention but only the most recent post was added. Do I need to add fragments to each section on the page then send webmentions from each fragment?

Will there be any progress on the Webmention implementation reports (https://github.com/w3c/webmention/pulls )? aaronpk or [tanktek] might know? Someone else?

#
[snarfed]
capjamesg yup, you can use fragments to publish individual h-entries in a feed, https://fed.brid.gy/docs#web-fragment
#
[snarfed]
it's unusual and not used often, but feel free to try
#
[snarfed]
I didn't follow your question about links and the http://fed.brid.gy/r/, can you elaborate?
#
capjamesg
Excellent! I'll give it a go!
#

[snarfed] Re: the links. This is what I see in Mastodon:

My URL has a brid.gy prefix.

carrvo, I'm not sure about the Webmention implementations. That might have only been part of the W3C process to advance it to Recommendation status, which it's been at for a while
#
gRegor
I'm not very familiar with the process, though, maybe they're supposed to keep being collected to stay current
#
gRegor
capjamesg, Yeah, Bridgy Fed links to your post with a redirect URL
#
Loqi
[preview] [aciccarello] #391 Article link should be original URL (not bridgy-fed redirect)
#
gRegor
Or rather, Mastodon does. BF just supports the redirect so it's more seamless :)
#
[tantek]
carrvo, good question! I think either aaronpk or I can merge PRs to the implementation reports repo. I vaguely remember one recent PR not quite getting the format right

did FrESH already talk about the Tiny Awards finalists? if not: https://tinyawards.net/vote/
#
[mattl]
Meh, they permit Gen AI stuff.
#
[tantek]
not sure if any of the finalists actually used any Gen AI and they do express some disdain for it in the FAQ
#
[mattl]
But they still permit it, which doesn’t feel very “small, poetic, creative, handmade” 😕
#
[tantek]
I think this is one of the real challenges we are wrestling with, in that it's one of those "depends on how you use the tool" things
#
[mattl]
Every time I see it on something like this, it sours me on it.
#
[tantek]
like I totally get that IMO "handmade" means no GenAI
#
[tantek]
sure, I'm saying don't throw out the baby with the bathwater. unless you find evidence that any of the finalists used genAI, perhaps treat them on good faith first?
#
[mattl]
I’m not even looking at the finalists. I just want tinyawards to say no to it.
#

[mattl]: Codeberg/Forgejo is quite good. If you want something minimal, sr.ht/Sourcehut are great too.
#
gRegor
Just came up in Fresh
#
gRegor
Doesn't sound like any direct experiences yet on there
#
rubenwardy
codeberg is for public foss repos, mind
#
carrvo
[tantek], likely that "recent PR not quite getting the format right" was likely mine, but I had no indication that there was a problem or what I got wrong...and there is a PR for moving capjamesg's report to the correct location.
#

jak2k: something minimal is git+ssh+cgit/stagit
#
[snarfed]
I just noticed that Mastodon revised its rendering of articles at some point, it now includes an ellipsized excerpt of content. nice!
#
[snarfed]
nm, I take it back, we're doing this on our side 😆
#
[snarfed]
aha it's not us, it's capjamesg's site, https://jamesg.blog/syndicated
#
[tantek]
aaronpk, I don't have privs to merge the implementation report(s) for Webmention, you may need to do this: https://github.com/w3c/webmention/pull/120

Tiny improvement to my blog today: embedded tweets now use Twitter’s emoji, not the browser’s emoji (but still screen-reader friendly, of course!). They now look a bit more like the real thing. 🥳 https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FWpviMMXgAYIjWm.png

i think i need to build OAuth2 device flow into my indieauth setup so i can more easily authorize devices like the 3DS which will never have my password manager or, like, passkeys.
#
[mattl]
Port LastPass to the 3DS you coward
#
[mattl]
Curious to see what you do. I have a stack of Nintendo handhelds here.
#
[schmarty]
no need to port lastpass. they've already leaked everyone's passwords enough times.
#
[schmarty]
Other than not supporting modern CSS layouts and some APIs, I think a 3DS browser has enough HTML5 support to Just Work with existing IndieWeb web apps. I'll need to try it sometime.

[schmarty] Fun fact: the Louvre uses the 3DS as its electronic tour guide.
#
capjamesg
You can pick up a 3DS from the guide station and take it throughout the museum.
#

IIRC Nintendo had also sponsored the purchase of a few paintings in the same room as the Mona Lisa.

[snarfed] I have one more question. Does the u-featured image need to be an img, or could it be a data tag?
#
capjamesg
I still have the display: none image for the banner on my blog but I'd like to replace it with something that's not going to load the image.
#
[schmarty]
Posting with http://quill.p3k.io from my 3DS works fine. Had to click away SSL warnings. And the layout requires scrolling around a bunch to get the image uploaded. But it works! And locally saved images on the 3DS can be uploaded no problem.
#
[schmarty]
reader situation not as good. monocle is... not really usable

#
gRegor
ah that tracks
#
[schmarty]
3DS browser is missing recent root certs and unless I have directly visited a domain I cannot grant an exception. So assets on third party domains, subdomains, fail without extra effort on my part
#
[mattl]
I think you can set a proxy server on the 3DS? It might be possible to do the trick people use for browsing the modern web on an ancient Mac using a Linux machine as proxy that fixes SSL etc
#
[schmarty]
Probably! If I'm gonna have to make a simplified microsub reader I might as well have it proxy media for me.
#
[schmarty]
(If the reader does it, then every 3DS user doesn't need a MitM proxy)
