right. also we talked about this featured question recently, right? https://chat.indieweb.org/dev/2025-08-06#t1754495132437900

[tantek]
sure, the question of whether "featured" is reasonable to interpret as "banner" or "background", and I don't really think it is

[tantek] oh, no, that's a good question, but I was replying to capjamesg's https://chat.indieweb.org/dev/2025-08-12#t1755033912342400 , which I think we answered before
#
capjamesg
[snarfed] Thank you!
#
capjamesg
I wasn't sure I understood the first response.

[edit] I read https://chat.indieweb.org/dev/2025-08-06/1754495875176300 as it potentially being possible.
#
[snarfed]
yes! short answer is, Bridgy/Bridgy Fed mostly don't care about your HTML, they just use whatever comes out of the mf2 parser
#
[snarfed]
so any way you can make the mf2 parser emit featured should work
#
capjamesg
Ahh nice!
#
capjamesg
[snarfed]++ thank you for the clarification!

[preview] [[snarfed]] I wonder if what other markup besides img you could use that would parse into the photo property
ttybitnik joined the channel
#
[tantek]
capjamesg, short answer, whatever markup makes semantic sense in your page
#
[tantek]
microformats parsing rules are designed to adapt to "normal" good use of semantic markup. your assumption should be to just do the right thing for HTML as you would anyway, and then adding the microformats2 class names will "just" work

Is this something acceptable? https://github.com/indieweb/indieauth-client-php/pull/28 Or should I be closing it?

Looks good at a glance. I can pull sometime soon and run the tests to make sure
#
carrvo
I appreciate the responses since I am trying to clean up some of my forks.
#
gRegor
Or maybe I just need to give the github CI a bump and have it run tests. I think they pause automatic runs if there hasn't been activity in the repo in a while. I ran into that with php-mf2
#
carrvo
If it helps my setup has been using that change for months πŸ™‚ Though tests are always better!

#
gRegor
Ah, it was the scheduled actions on php-mf2 that pause after a while. That makes sense. Not sure why indieauth-client-php action isn't running
#
gRegor
Huh, on the Actions tab I don't see an action in the left column. But that `.github/workflows/main.yml` file definitely exists.
#
gRegor
Comparing to php-mf2 repo Actions tab, the latter has a "Build" action there.
#
gRegor
Hm, maybe just needed to touch a file. I updated main.yml to add `workflow_dispatch` event which lets you manually run a workflow. It queued up and ran it right away, didn't even have to manually trigger it.

Glad I accidentially helped shore up the workflows!
#
gRegor
I'm going to try closing and re-opening the PR, because I think that should trigger the workflow
#

I need to add PHP82, but I'll merge this first

Thank you! I will make an issue on my end to remove the hack from my project πŸ˜„
#
carrvo
Just to confirm, does it automatically make it onto the Composer/Pear package? Or will that entail another step?
#
carrvo
I am also just thinking of just closing this one: https://github.com/indieweb/indieauth-client-php/pull/29 It may be nice to see a log message with some more detail as to why something failed, but it really is not needed.

No, we'll need to schedule a release before it goes out broadly
#
gRegor
I'd leave 29 open for now. I can't look at it right now but I can soon.
#
gRegor
I'm actually not too familiar with packagist releases, I don't know if it automatically updates from github releases?
#
gRegor
It does appear to be automatic from the latest github release, so that's nice: https://packagist.org/packages/indieauth/client
